The Great Gatsby (2012)

I saw it last week, but I'm still not sure what to make of it. The acting was so uneven, except by DiCaprio who was surprisingly good, while Carey (who I usually love) and Joel Edgerton (who I expected the most from) were plain awful. It is visually breathtaking though, and the music fits surprisingly well.

^Carey was a weak point for me too..I love her, and shes obviously a talented actress, but it kinda just didn't work with her? IDK.

Dicaprio, Edgerton, and that Elizabeth Debeki were really good

The actor & actress who played Tom Buchanan & Jordan Baker were really good. I enjoyed watching them more than Leo & Carey. :P

There's no denying it was visually gorgeous (especially the parties!) but there were so many cheesy scenes. The soundtrack was dope, and I appreciate the juxtaposition of the music with the times. But there were moments where I felt like I was watching an overly extended Jay-Z or Lana del Rey music vid. lol

I'm going to the cinema to see it tomorrow. I haven't been to the cinema since Iron Man 3 (...taken by a friend - mea non culpa!), so I'm looking forward to the cinema atmosphere, if nothing else. Luhrmann always makes fun films, if not necessarily good films, so I expect to turn my brain off, kick back, and enjoy.

I'm finally going to watch it next Tuesday (have been waiting for my boyfriend to visit me so I could drag him along  ). I've heard/read lots of mixed reviews so I don't have the highest expectations; one of my best friends, whose taste in both books and films I totally trust, said "it's just Leonardo Di Caprio giving hip hop parties" but we'll see  I really like the book...

I loved/love it. Its pretty much my obsession as of yet.
The reviews I argue with. A lot of them are confused between the "love/lust/obsession" between Jay and Daisy.
I think the movie potraid the relationship... of what there was... quit well.
And frankly I love Leonardo DiCaprio. To see him play such a character was well.... The only word that comes to mind is DREAMY.
Plus I believe that men should dress like they did then, now! Very handsome, and well like they actually gave/give a damn.

Ok. Now I'm done with my rant and rave, time to go through this thread, page by page.

Saw this movie and it was quite bad.
Carey was bad, Leonardo was OK and Tobey was not so annoying as he used to be.
I liked Joel a lot and Jason Clarke is just one of my favorite actors, so it would have been great if he had more screen time.
I like Baz´s way to make movies but Gatsby just was not very well done.
Oh well...life goes on.
