For Jane Tudor, Grill and all. I went back and found a copy of a picture I took of my Kelly bag. Here it is.

I'm actually not sure if it's rigid or supple (hate to admit this) but it has some flexibility so I think supple. For me the size works because I have a little extra on my hips and the larger size bags balance out my figure and disguise that area. Believe me, no one notices my hips when I'm carrying an H bag!:woot: Can I justify a bag purchase or what!

And yes, I am "of a certain age;" in my 40's. I remember being a little girl with my Mom showing me magazine pictures of Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn. She dearly loved both of them. I also remember "dressing" to go to town. I still do that.

BYW, an Ebene Birkin sounds lovely. Now that I've bought a few bags from the same boutique (San Francisco) maybe they'll let me place an order.

Laurie Ann & Jane Tudor - you ladies sound like you have great taste! It's really funny that you are talking about sloppy dressing as yesterday here in Paris at a chic restaurant in the evening some attractive Californian twentysomethings were enjoying dinner while over here. I commented to my husband on their "art of dressing down" which definitely has a place. However, their tracky bottoms, uggs and granny-wrap sweaters looked weird against the formal back drop of their location and like they were just about to go to bed not down a cocktail!

Laurie_Ann - I would love to see a bigger pic of your Rouge H birkin in Togo! As this is a colour I have been considering for my next bag.

Maybe you guys could advise me on what should be my next pick? Currently I have a Birkin in Black with Palladium HW & a Blue Jean both 30cm both in Togo. I limit myself to just 1 big Hermes purchase a year and am currently thinking - of an Clemence 35 cm Birkin in Etoupe or a 32 cm Kelly in Togo possibly Rouge Garance or Rouge H? I know the 35cm Birkin would be the most sensible option as I do need a bigger bag than my 30cms to tote around my gym and work kit. However, the beauty of the Kelly is definitely calling to me!

I would suggest a red Kelly absolutely!! This is a bag that will go with everything. I like 32 for daytime, but if you think you need to go larger, 35 is and option and would be easier to find as they are in less demand size wise. Chevre would be great it you could find it especially in vermillion. Chevre is lighter in weight than togo and takes color in a very special way. I have two bags in vermillion chevre and think it is fab. Either size has the advantage of a shoulder strap so that might help you. Etoupe can be a difficult color depending upon your personal coloring. It tends to look better with people who have dark hair because the color doesn't wash you out.

RE: the yahoos from Cal. You were at a nice rest. and they were dressed for Johnny Rockets Hamburger joint? LOL! OK, let's be charitable and say that they were sightseeing all day and didn't have the energy to go back to the hotel and change. Been there and done that myself! Sad to see that though. I would also point out that with all the problems that people have been having with baggage, no one wants to travel with their best clothes for fear of losing them in the Nexus known as airport luggage Hell:cry: I try to carry on the one really good jacket etc., but even that is getting harder to do :( Friends of mine just went to France and their luggage was lost and ended up in Louisiana! With the dollar in the dumper it was difficult and they didn't want to spend the $$$ on clothes that they were going to use for 4star restaurants:p Maybe that is who you saw at the nice rest.;)

It's a beauty:heart: Def. a retourne! Love the palladium hardware, tres chic! This is a forever bag.

Gosh, I remember when people used to dress to go to a Broadway show! Audrey and the LBD will always be my favorite.

Happy to say that when I recently went to some concerts and events in LA, the ladies were dressing up and looked wonderful! Lots of black BTW. Sadly, no Hermes except for me:o

Yes, def. have the ebene Bolide on my radar.:flower:

^Laurie_Ann - what a stunning Kelly! It's so classic and chic! Definitely the retourne (or the supple version) as there are no visible stitches on the side seams. Personally, I prefer the retournes over the sellier (rigid) models.

^Jane Tudor (Are you perhaps a real royal-blooded Tudor:heart::p with connections to Henry VII et al.?? - Sorry, but I have a bit of a Tudor history thing!) thanks so much for your feedback and suggestions re. my next Hermes purchase.

If I get a Kelly, I'd definitely stick with the 32cm as I'm pretty petite even though I'm 5'5". If I take the Kelly its simply because I love it rather than for any practical needs. Concerning, the etoupe I'm a hazelnut hair coloured person with very fair skin and blue eyes, I tried out Hermes gold in Clemence: a colour I loved on other people but which did not work at all on me - I think this is why I am drawn to etoupe. BTW, my husband loves red and wants me to get anything red as a next H purchase - be it a Kelly or a Birkin.

Well, Grill...if you were to ask my brothers, they would say I was a real Princess:woot: I am named for Lady Jane Grey, who some say was the first Tudor Queen courtesy of her mother. Yes, I love the history thing too! Gosh, what a family:o

I think etoupe would look well on you because of your hair color. Red would certainly be great as well. I have always found that if the DH likes the expensive purchase, it makes the cost a little easier to swallow:lol: Oops, what did I just say? The last thing you want is the dreaded "look" as in "what were you thinking?" Get the red and then get the etoupe!

Actually surprised to hear that gold did not work for you. Gold in togo is a very British gold and looks pretty nice on most people. Chevre tends to be more yellow and that would make you look sallow if you have fair skin. Clemence should have been ok. Hazelnut as a leather color is really lovely too. They do that in a Kelly with contrast stitching and it really rocks!

I like the rigide/sellier in a smaller bag like a 28 but in 32 never and like the retourne as well.

Hi everyone, this is my Kelly (with some of my other bages), and I'm working on a Birkin now... So, my husband bought it for me a few years ago, I never thought to ask the leather type or whether it's rigid or supple... I'm thinking Box?

Lovely Beth! What size is it? It is a retourne/souple and it looks like Gulliver if it is from a few years ago. Hermes has tweaked Gulliver and it is now called Swift. It looks a little too soft for box leather and not as shiny. What is the date stamp? That would tell us.:flower:

^ BethC - what a beautiful Kelly! You're very lucky to have a husband with such impecable taste! Do you carry her often?

Hi Jane and Grill, glad to see you ladies here.
Agree with you on the cal. casual outfit thing...I also observed a few in a nice restaurant in NYC a few days ago......
I always carry on a garment bag with nice clothes inside. The other carry on case is always for shoes. That's how I travel. I hate going to nice occasions without the proper clothes and I have found my solution. :flower:
Grill, Etoupe attracts to me in a special way. I think that you'll rock it. I might even work with your new Balenciaga scarf!

That is really hilarious! The chances of that bag being the same place and time X2 is slim and none. The planets must have been in alignment that day:p

Do you use that as a carry-on for clothes etc.?

Grill, I love etoupe in a Birkin or Kelly with contrast stitching! I wish the color looked good on me. Hope you get your bag soon!

Caffeine, good to hear from you too!

I agree Etoupe is a great basic color....Graphite is a great Hermes color as well!!! :)

^^I can't make my mind up about graphite. When I recently saw it at the boutique I thought it looked a little too close to black. I would like it to have a little more gray in it. Maybe what I am really looking for is charcoal?
