I just got off the phone with a SA at Hermes, I was inquiring about the Kelly Long (?) she said they run about 5k, and they don't have any, but if I come in they may order it from another store. I also inquired about the Birkin list, She said there isn't one, but if i come in we can go over the swatches, the wait is about 1-2 yrs. but she can get it in 6 months. The conversation confused the heck out of me, does any of this make sense???

The SA was right there is no list but i can tell you they just tell you the wait is 1-2 years is bull they just tell that to anyone who is not a VVIP or a well known customer they do have birkins in the back but they keep them for special clients. Hows that for a insider secret;)

LaurieAnn - love your Bolide! Is it 37cm? I got a black one for Christmas, and have been using it ever since. Gold is great for the spring/summer, though.

Yes, it's a 37cm. I seem to go for big bags. (They balance out big boobs.:woot:) I'll bet you are lovin' your black bolide. Would you care to post a picture? of give specs. I'd love to know what size, leather and hardware you have.

The apple case is so cute. It's definitly for the woman who has everything!

are my posts showing up?
i posted about getting a blalck birkin next and wasnt sure about the leather and hardware.
i need it to be stiffer then the taurillon...
any suggestions greatly appreciated

I'd vote for Togo. It's casual and grainy like the clemence but holds it's shape better. Or if you want rigid and hardwearing what about Fjord leather - I think it comes in black. Honestly, if you're a girl who isn't afraid of mixing her hardwear choices - I'd go with the gold over the palladium so chic and timeless.

I hope you're happy with your clemence bags Leyla?

As my next bag is going to be a kelly 32cm in graphite clemence with palladium hardwear.

i'd go with black box calf with gold hardware. a timeless classic combo, and the leather gets more beautiful over time.

^not sure about the current availability of box calf though? But as Alejandro says - timeless and beautiful (a high maintenance - although refurbishable - choice). Chevre is tdf also - again not sure about the availability....

thanks to you both :flower:
i like the idea of togo.. still unsure about the hardware, but i think it'll be gold in the end :shifty:
i also love the suppleness of the softer leathers but realistically need something tougher for all my travelling and throwing the bag around :)
i just picked up the swift in rose dragée for my sis in law and it got returned mainly cos of the leather texture... too plasticky and soft. i agree with that...
lets see what will come around as a delivery to my local hermes!

i didn't know box calf was rare?
you can find it often on ebay for a good price though :)
i love this leather, if i got an hermes it would def be in box.

Definitelly clemence for slouchy floppy casual look or box for timeless classic...ooh I love the lived in patina of aged box leather

Alejandro - sometimes Hermes only offers it in very limited quantities for ordering sometimes because they have problems sourcing the perfect skins they love using for their bags. I believe this is currently the case....

Leyla_M - for an everyday bag you can't beat the Togo! And I'm no fan of Swift either - kind of pearlised and plasticky, definitely old lady style in the rose dragee. BTW what did you think of the colour? Personally, I'd pass too but wasn't it for a friend or a sister?????

grill,

the rose dragée is pretty and i do like clear colours.. maybe cos i live in the sun most year round
but yup, it was for my sis in law and since the gris tourterelle never came in they called me for this one. she didnt like it at all when they delivered it to her house and got refunded straight away. in fact she so NOT liked it that she said she is slightly put off the birkin..
anyway, she might get one in may with me :)
now im pretty sure im getting the togo with gold :woot:

Yay! Black Togo with GHW! Great choice...!

What happened to the Gris torterelle??? I love that colour. - No wonder sis in law was p*ssed they tried to palm her off with the rose dragee!

Advice please

I just found out my husband bought me a 35cm in calfskin. I think the color is havanne, but he's not sure. What do you think of this leather? I can return it if I don't like it.

luba1000 - sounds fab - I'd keep it ;)

I like this Hermes bag (F/W 08/09) as it is completely different than their usual designs

The elusive Birkin bag made by Hermes is so sought after as a status symbol by women worldwide that the French fashion house has a two year waiting list for potential owners - or does it?

Michael Tonello, a beautician turned fashion buyer, says he devised a system to bypass the much-talked about list and spent five years travelling between different Hermes stores to snap up Birkin bags to meet - and profit from - this pent-up demand.

Initially he sold them online but then began selling them at a handsome mark-up to wealthy private clients who didn't want to wait two years, with people aware that Hermes handbags are one of the few brands that hold or increase in value over time.

Tonello said cracking the code let him to buy hundreds of Birkin bags and he is now adamant that the waiting list is just a fantastic marketing ploy. So what was his trick?

"I would go into a store with a list in my Hermes Ulysse notebook and pile up scarves, shawls, bracelets, worth about $US2,000 ($A2,160). This made me seem a regular Hermes client," Tonello said in a telephone interview.

"Once I had that pile ready to buy, at the last moment I'd ask for a Birkin and they would usually produce one of the back room. In 2005, I bought 130 Birkins in a three-month period - and you tell me there is a waiting list?"

Tonello, who wrote the book Bringing Home the Birkin - which will be published in Australia in July - about his Birkin adventures, said he has receipts to back his story.

A spokeswoman for Hermes in Australia, Nicole Morgan, said the company was making no official comment on Tonello's book.

She said managing requests for handbags, all of which are handmade in Paris, was part of their customer service.

Tonello said there was no other bag with the same allure as the Birkin so it made sense that Hermes would want to retain the mystery of its list and sense of the bag's scarcity.

"The bag has become the iconic 'it' bag, the symbol of ultimate luxury, because of its inaccessibility to the general public. People really want what they can't have," said Tonello, an American who lives in Barcelona.

"But I'd travel to different countries, walk into Hermes, use my formula, and get a bag, and return home with six or seven Birkins several times a month. It's odd to say there is a list when I could walk in and out of nine out 10 stores with a bag."

The elusiveness of the Birkin has ensured it has remained one of the world's most coveted bags since Hermes named it after British actress Jane Birkin in 1984, with prices starting at about $US9,000 ($A9,720) and rising to about $US34,000 ($A36,721) for a crocodile skin bag.

Birkins are regularly spotted on the wrists of glamorous celebrities, such as Victoria Beckham, Katie Holmes, and Desperate Housewives actress Eva Longoria.

But Tonello said he began to feel like a drug dealer after a while spent Birkin trading.

"I kept notes on which stores I went in, when and what I bought, and I wouldn't repeat a store for six months," he said.

"In the store in Paris I went in maybe once too often and they checked the computer and discovered how many bags I had bought. They sent me a fax saying essentially they would no longer sell me any bags."

He has now given up trading bags - and doesn't miss it.

"I don't like the bag. In all honesty I don't think it is very practical as it's time-consuming to get in and out of and the bag is rather heavy, even empty," he said.

he caused quite a stir on TPF..... that was hilarious

besides, for 2000 dollars, one can hardly "pile" up stuff at Hermes. it's 5 clic clacs! that's about it!

My friend showed me her "Hermes" scarf today.
She was like "How much do you think I should sell this on ebay?"
"...It's polyester."
"I know it feels like it but it must be silk - it's been hand rolled."
"...It's quite clearly been sewn on a machine."
