I'm halfway through book one and already picturing Parrish as Peeta...![]()
thehoborg.blogspot.com/2011/04/casting-for-peeta-in-hunger-gamesLast night we shared information we received from a source saying that none of the actors who tested for Peeta had heard any casting decisions yet, despite rumors of Josh Hutcherson being the front runner (still no confirmation one way or the other on that rumor). And that the actors would basically be in a holding pattern and under confidentiality agreements until their test deals expire on Tuesday.
We had some questions from readers about what exactly this means and what these test deals are, and since we're not industry experts, we got some additional clarification.
All of the actors who tested for the role of Peeta (check out the alleged short list) already have their contracts in place with the studio. So at the end of the test period - which is Tuesday - the studio will chose one of the actors and it's a done deal; the actor chosen cannot opt to turn it down since they already have a contract.
This means that a decision on who will play Peeta should be made by Tuesday, and hopefully an official confirmation on the decision will be announced by Lionsgate shortly after.
No word on the timetable for Gale casting, but we'll let know if we hear anything!
'Hunger Games' casts Peeta and Gale: Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth nab the roles
by Jeff Labrecque
Josh Hutcherson (The Kids are All Right) and Liam Hemsworth (The Last Song) have joined the cast of Hunger Games in the roles of Peeta Mellark and Gale Hawthorne, respectively, Lionsgate announced today in a release. Both actors will star opposite Jennifer Lawrence, who will play Katniss Everdeen, the heroine who volunteers to represent her remote district in the brutal annual survival test. Hutcherson, for one, has long thought he was right for the part: Check out his Q&A with EW’s Karen Valby at SXSW, in which the actor talks about his desire to play Peeta.
The Hunger Games, based on Suzanne Collins’ best-selling trilogy, will be directed by Gary Ross and released by Lionsgate on March 23, 2012.
