The Hunger Games Thread

this series got progressively worse, book 1 is great, 2 is good, 3 is bad

^I´m reading book 3 and don´t find it bad, better than two actually...
any True Blood fans here? Finnick reminds me of Eric, can´t stop picturing Alexander Skarsgard as him lol

Anyone has info on producers/studio? I hope they invest on the first movie, the books have a lot of potential of translating great into film, imo. I keep picturing a sort of Terminator Salvation style movie for book three...

I didn't like book 3. I thought the author rushed the story too much, but I know a lot of people who did like it.

Now that you mention it...Finnick is very much like Eric! I can totally see that if Skarsgaard were a little younger. :D

The film is being produced by Lionsgate and it was released by Entertainment Weekly awhile ago that the budget for the film would be around 50-60 million dollars. So not a lot, so hopefully the special effects will be done well. It's being directed by Gary Ross (who previously directed Pleasantville and Seabiscuit) and the author herself, Suzanne Collins, wrote the screenplay. :D

I just finished book 3. It took a turn to the depressing at some point, not much of a very happy ending. I like that about it...

hmm... Lionsgate doesn´t have big action/special effects movies, does it? hopefully the majority of the budget will be spent in post production.

It's done a few, but it mostly specializes in dark, Indie type films like Crash, Irreversible, Monster's Ball, and Hard Candy.
So that's good, because that means the studio isn't afraid to go VERY dark and disturbing.

Lionsgate also does a lot of horror films like the Saw franchise and Hostel.

I'm halfway through book one and already picturing Parrish as Peeta... :innocent:

apparently we will know by Tuesday (or shortly afterwards)

Last night we shared information we received from a source saying that none of the actors who tested for Peeta had heard any casting decisions yet, despite rumors of Josh Hutcherson being the front runner (still no confirmation one way or the other on that rumor). And that the actors would basically be in a holding pattern and under confidentiality agreements until their test deals expire on Tuesday.

We had some questions from readers about what exactly this means and what these test deals are, and since we're not industry experts, we got some additional clarification.

All of the actors who tested for the role of Peeta (check out the alleged short list) already have their contracts in place with the studio. So at the end of the test period - which is Tuesday - the studio will chose one of the actors and it's a done deal; the actor chosen cannot opt to turn it down since they already have a contract.

This means that a decision on who will play Peeta should be made by Tuesday, and hopefully an official confirmation on the decision will be announced by Lionsgate shortly after.

No word on the timetable for Gale casting, but we'll let know if we hear anything!

I really hope it's Hunter Parrish. I can't see Josh Hutcherson playing at all. He's so not right for the role. And he's short.

For Gale, I'm pulling for Taylor Kitsch. He's perfect!

yummy:brows:
he's def how i imagined Gale (that's why i always preferred him over Peeta:lol:)

Taylor´s character in Friday Night Lights was like Gale, he can really act the part.
Anyone knows casting rumors about other characters? when are they supposed to start shooting?

^They're supposed to start shooting this year...late May or early June.

There hasn't been much casting news. Just speculation from fans.

I'd love to see Hunter Parish play Peeta! Josh Hutcherson is completely wrong for the part!

Well it's Official. Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth have been cast to play Peeta and Gale, respectively in the upcoming Hunger Games adaptation.

I'm really shocked by this casting. Neither of them are even remotely close to how I imagined Peeta and Gale:

Here's the article from Entertainment Weekly
'Hunger Games' casts Peeta and Gale: Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth nab the roles
by Jeff Labrecque

Josh Hutcherson (The Kids are All Right) and Liam Hemsworth (The Last Song) have joined the cast of Hunger Games in the roles of Peeta Mellark and Gale Hawthorne, respectively, Lionsgate announced today in a release. Both actors will star opposite Jennifer Lawrence, who will play Katniss Everdeen, the heroine who volunteers to represent her remote district in the brutal annual survival test. Hutcherson, for one, has long thought he was right for the part: Check out his Q&A with EW’s Karen Valby at SXSW, in which the actor talks about his desire to play Peeta.

The Hunger Games, based on Suzanne Collins’ best-selling trilogy, will be directed by Gary Ross and released by Lionsgate on March 23, 2012.

booh! I wanted Parrish as Peeta
they don´t even look like the book description, I can´t picture them as Peeta and Gale...
that Hemsworth guy was in a Miley Cyrus movie?! is he a good actor? :innocent:
Hutcherson was ok in The Kids Are All Right but nothing great... and now he has to die his hair blonde and wear blue contact lenses, it´s hard to think he can pull it off...

wonder how die hard fans are reacting... if some weren´t happy with Lawrence as Katniss I can´t believe they´ll be happy with this casting.
