lol, you're not rude.. youre just sayin your opinion and i respect that
as i said before, i know NY plays a part in a fashion industry that needs to be acknowledged but i simply do not identify with their aestethics at all... Americans fashion represents American lifestyle which is very fast-paced, comfortable, casual and sporty... What's the difference between Americans and yogurt? Yogurt will grow culture after hundred years... Americans just don't go deep enough into fashion... they all wanna be stylish and fabulous but they dont look at fashion as art... look at typical American proms with those hideous candy dresses... Even if somebody in States would try to be more artistic, he wouldnt be successful cuz nobody would buy it... You can describe American fashion by phrase: "oh, its pretty"... like when you make painting... You dont wanna make painting people will look at and will say 'oh pretty' and go away and forget about it... you dont wanna make something pretty but you also wanna go deeper, and have a story behind... something that will make people think, that will gather their attention, make them wonder and think about stuff, delve into that art piece... i feel like American fashion only stays on the outside, but doesnt go inside... as you said... everything MUST be pretty and sell... its so sales-oriented... you think this is utter BS too?
Just compare US. Vogue with Parisian and Milanese one... After goin through American one, there are no emotions left... couple Verizon ads, ads of italian and parisian designers, some studio photoshoot with either Raquel Zimmermann or Karlie Kloss on a grey background (I swear Raquel is in every single issue), couple articles (which are REALLY good and insightful) but thats it....but Parisian and Milanese Vogue are so wild and on fire... they LIVE fashion... creative, going further the limits... and its definitely not 15'000 gowns youre talking about... to find these gowns, you need to look into US vogue...
Michael Kors is great example... pretty dresses that will sell... so what? his collections look so blank.. no story behind... just interesting prints, cuts and thats it... no feelings left after show...
and Ralph Lauren? really?
really? He makes same stuff every season... and the models look like they are about to ride a horse... Im sorry but Ralph Lauren woman isnt the jockey we are lookin for...
Another purely horrible brand is Oscar De La Renta and his granny I-dont-miss-my-sexuality-at-all clothes... perfect for Anna Wintour though...
and dont let me start about Carolina HerRera, Donna KarAn (at least spell their names right if you admire them pls) with her metallic satin gowns and others... and i am no fan of Calvin either... every season looks the same and blends into another... simple dresses with couple details and interesting cuts... America differs from Europe that the market has 300 million customers, therefore apparel must appeal to huge masses. However, it reflects on the blank clothes....
and you talk about same Rodarte linked to the Juarez cosmetics controversy and ghost models on their campaigns?
Alexander Wang is prolly the American designer i admire the most... he is very talented, best-seller in NYC and has great future ahead of him....
I wanted to add couple sentences about London fashion week before your comment but there was 10 minutes limit to edit post... yes, London has ideas but i feel like they do not know how to put them together... Its the presentation that makes the impression... the ideas are there, but its all not just fused well and collection does not work as a whole for me... i always get lost in them... and in the end you forget about them way too fast... i didnt say the clothes were ugly... but i guess the clothes and shows should be more themed and brought more to the end... when i watch london show, i feel like there still could be done more... but in paris and milan i feel at certain (not all) fashion shows, damn, that was one well-done collection... theme, clothes, models, hair and makeup, runway, music.. you can see all the hard work..
i just dont have taste for london designers... and especially for Kane.. i think what he does at Versus is pure nightmare... oh Burberry and their beige trenchcoats with that square print... every season is the same... minidresses with tights and narrow belt around the waist... one season the dress is studded, another one the dress is made of golden glitters, another one its drappin.. and i always wonder who wears those Westwood clothes.. they
all just look.... fuzzy i guess..
fyi, Milan and Paris got recently too-sales-oriented and thats why they were within last years really weak and everybody is so disappointed, but if you compare pre-crisis 2008 era, Milan and Paris are on top of throne imo...
There are different fashion weeks and its good... its supposed to be that way... there are different people who have different tastes and aestethics and its fashion city covers different part... theres nothin wrong with that... but every city has its specific personality. Not to like them is not wrong and its certainly not end of the world... its just my personal opinion, preferance and taste of fashion... as you can see, some posted pictures here that others adored... 100 people, 100 tastes...
so sorry for actually to try to go deeper into clothes and believe that clothes should not just be pretty but also bring art into everydays life and define our personality and soul.... Moreover, clothes can be artistic and wearable... we're not talking about Haute Couture but pret-a-porter...that's all
and to keep posting... some not-so-good collections from Paris... Louis Vuitton FW09... i really dont understand who can like this collection with that 'things'on models' heads... as it was said... Louis Vuitton dress = oh heck no!
