The Most Hideous Dress You've Ever Seen...

I seriously doubt people buy these clothes.I'm certain the majority of LV's profit comes from bags and not even the runway ones, the plain mongrammed ones. The runway shows are just publicity stunts to draw more attention to the house.

so true.... couldnt agree more... if they didnt reinvent their old logo, they would have already went to bankruptcy.... but its such a shame and waste of money on these 'collections'... take gucci for example... okay, Frida is not innovative designer with her recycled 70s collections but at least she reinvents the bags and clothes and makes them still very luxurious, alluring and so feminine apparel... frida simply KNOWS what every woman wants to wear... Marc is just so full of himself...

I think the freedom they've given to Marc to do anything he fancies with the ready-to-wear collections is a clear indication that they don't mind spending tons of money on a runway show as long as they sell 5 times more bags. The reason they hired Marc is because they were irrelevant and they wanted a hip and critically acclaimed designer to make Louis Vuitton a trendy brand. As for Frida eventhough her collections scream trendwh**e,at least they are wearable, sexy and women-friendly.She may not be a design genius but at least she knows to which type of woman she caters.

Indeed. In my city, it is a sea of Louis Vuitton handbags -- the plain monogrammed ones. I don't know of a single person who buys LV clothes. Come to think of it, maybe there should be a thread for "the most hideous collections you've ever seen". This particular LV collection would definitely belong in that thread.

Same here.I live in the second biggest city in Greece and we have a Louis Vuitton boutique.I've never seen a single person purchase so much as a skirt. They all buy the monogrammed bags, wallets and some classic shoes and belts. As for the clothes they remain in hangers until the next season comes :innocent:

and i utterly hate every single fashion shows from New York and London fashion weeks ever.... except Gareth Pugh first collections...

New York is always so uninspiring and boring.... cheeziness overload... theres no sophistication and haute craftsmanship.... i know they brought a lot into fashion... more casualty and modern sporty style but i personally miss that European opulence and luxury that screams from outfits.. In New York, they make fashion... in Europe, they make art....

and I really dont get why ive been hearing for last 8 years from so many people that London fashion week is ahead of Paris one... its always trying to be so avant-garde but it fails to impress.... And when they finally have someone good, they move to Paris like Galliano or Pugh... They lucky they still got Kate Moss' Topshop....

I know this is your opinion but I think everything you just said was Utter BS.

New York does not have the High Octane glitz, bells and whistles that Paris has, but there are some amazing designers who show at NYFW.
Michael Kors, Ralph Lauren, Carolina Hererra and DVF are the panicles of American Lifestyle and Fashion, they actually make clothes that people want to, and can wear, as well as creating the lifestyle to go with it.

There are amazing new and talented designers such as the Rodarte sisters and Alexander Wang, plus the pure simplicity and technical craftsmanship behind Francesco Costa's Calvin Klein is incredible.

Brands like Donna Karen, Derek Lam and Narcisco Rodriquez bring an air of simplified glamour the NYC, without all the retention of the Paris Shows.

London on the other hand has great designers and prospect. I have been utterly blown away by the beauty and elegance of Erdem, every season he creates his own world with amazingly visual print and embroideries. Designers like Christopher Kane, Richard Nichol, Holly Fulton and Marios Schwab are the people the industry are looking to to take Fashion forward.

Swedish Brand Acne bring sophisticated and simplistic clothes in luxurious fabrics and cuts. And the heritage of the UK is brought up by Vivienne Westwood Red and the Burberry shows.

London is classed as the new wave of designers, because not everything is a £14,000 Embroidered evening dress. These people have new and innovative ideas which, although you may not seem to notice, the Fashion industry is yearning for.

We cant turn each FW into Paris. I agree, it has great shows, but Fashion has two parts, Dreams and Reality. What people admire, and what people wear. And its the wearability of NYFW and LFW that people want to buy into.

Excuse me for sounding rude, but everything you said in your post seemed like complete trash.

^^ I somewhat agree.

At the end of the day, fashion designers basically exist to dress men and women and of course, to earn money.

Although fashion has almost no boundaries, it always depends on them (fashion designers) if the garment they'll create is something to be worn or something to be displayed in an art exhibit.

By the way, I want some more hideous dresses peleaasssee!

I like some of the stuff posted here:ninja:

Taste really is subjective.

LOL, same here.

In fact, some of the dresses posted here I would post in the "Most beautiful dress" thread and then take some from that thread and post them here.

2Kite:

lol, you're not rude.. youre just sayin your opinion and i respect that ;)

as i said before, i know NY plays a part in a fashion industry that needs to be acknowledged but i simply do not identify with their aestethics at all... Americans fashion represents American lifestyle which is very fast-paced, comfortable, casual and sporty... What's the difference between Americans and yogurt? Yogurt will grow culture after hundred years... Americans just don't go deep enough into fashion... they all wanna be stylish and fabulous but they dont look at fashion as art... look at typical American proms with those hideous candy dresses... Even if somebody in States would try to be more artistic, he wouldnt be successful cuz nobody would buy it... You can describe American fashion by phrase: "oh, its pretty"... like when you make painting... You dont wanna make painting people will look at and will say 'oh pretty' and go away and forget about it... you dont wanna make something pretty but you also wanna go deeper, and have a story behind... something that will make people think, that will gather their attention, make them wonder and think about stuff, delve into that art piece... i feel like American fashion only stays on the outside, but doesnt go inside... as you said... everything MUST be pretty and sell... its so sales-oriented... you think this is utter BS too?
Just compare US. Vogue with Parisian and Milanese one... After goin through American one, there are no emotions left... couple Verizon ads, ads of italian and parisian designers, some studio photoshoot with either Raquel Zimmermann or Karlie Kloss on a grey background (I swear Raquel is in every single issue), couple articles (which are REALLY good and insightful) but thats it....but Parisian and Milanese Vogue are so wild and on fire... they LIVE fashion... creative, going further the limits... and its definitely not 15'000 gowns youre talking about... to find these gowns, you need to look into US vogue...

Michael Kors is great example... pretty dresses that will sell... so what? his collections look so blank.. no story behind... just interesting prints, cuts and thats it... no feelings left after show...
and Ralph Lauren? really? really? He makes same stuff every season... and the models look like they are about to ride a horse... Im sorry but Ralph Lauren woman isnt the jockey we are lookin for...
Another purely horrible brand is Oscar De La Renta and his granny I-dont-miss-my-sexuality-at-all clothes... perfect for Anna Wintour though... :)
and dont let me start about Carolina HerRera, Donna KarAn (at least spell their names right if you admire them pls) with her metallic satin gowns and others... and i am no fan of Calvin either... every season looks the same and blends into another... simple dresses with couple details and interesting cuts... America differs from Europe that the market has 300 million customers, therefore apparel must appeal to huge masses. However, it reflects on the blank clothes....
and you talk about same Rodarte linked to the Juarez cosmetics controversy and ghost models on their campaigns?

Alexander Wang is prolly the American designer i admire the most... he is very talented, best-seller in NYC and has great future ahead of him....

I wanted to add couple sentences about London fashion week before your comment but there was 10 minutes limit to edit post... yes, London has ideas but i feel like they do not know how to put them together... Its the presentation that makes the impression... the ideas are there, but its all not just fused well and collection does not work as a whole for me... i always get lost in them... and in the end you forget about them way too fast... i didnt say the clothes were ugly... but i guess the clothes and shows should be more themed and brought more to the end... when i watch london show, i feel like there still could be done more... but in paris and milan i feel at certain (not all) fashion shows, damn, that was one well-done collection... theme, clothes, models, hair and makeup, runway, music.. you can see all the hard work..

i just dont have taste for london designers... and especially for Kane.. i think what he does at Versus is pure nightmare... oh Burberry and their beige trenchcoats with that square print... every season is the same... minidresses with tights and narrow belt around the waist... one season the dress is studded, another one the dress is made of golden glitters, another one its drappin.. and i always wonder who wears those Westwood clothes.. they
all just look.... fuzzy i guess..
fyi, Milan and Paris got recently too-sales-oriented and thats why they were within last years really weak and everybody is so disappointed, but if you compare pre-crisis 2008 era, Milan and Paris are on top of throne imo...

There are different fashion weeks and its good... its supposed to be that way... there are different people who have different tastes and aestethics and its fashion city covers different part... theres nothin wrong with that... but every city has its specific personality. Not to like them is not wrong and its certainly not end of the world... its just my personal opinion, preferance and taste of fashion... as you can see, some posted pictures here that others adored... 100 people, 100 tastes...

so sorry for actually to try to go deeper into clothes and believe that clothes should not just be pretty but also bring art into everydays life and define our personality and soul.... Moreover, clothes can be artistic and wearable... we're not talking about Haute Couture but pret-a-porter...that's all

and to keep posting... some not-so-good collections from Paris... Louis Vuitton FW09... i really dont understand who can like this collection with that 'things'on models' heads... as it was said... Louis Vuitton dress = oh heck no!

This thread is quickly becoming my forum guilty pleasure. Everytime I think I've seen the worst dress ever, another one pops up.

I see a lot of Valentino, Chanel, LV but... how come nobody has posted Yohji Yamamoto or Maison Martin Margiela

Julien MacDonald SS 2010, anyone? This is one of the ugliest collections ever, in my honest opinion.

I think this thread needs more of a Manish Arora, Jean-Charles de Castelbajac and Sonia Rykiel.... Manish had actually usually innovative collections but some outfits end up to be simply ridiculous XD

I think Julian McDonald is a disgrace to the fashion Industry. He comes across is such a precocious, annoying twat. And he is TACKY as sin...Absolutely awful.

I understand alot of you have a certain hate for certain collections or designers but can you all make a reference to the title before posting, a clue is in the title 'the most hideous DRESS you've ever seen...' ;).
