The 'Outfit Look-Alikes' Thread

One thing I really appreciate about Prada, Lanvin or Balenciaga, is that even though they are not 100% original, They are presented so well, so memorable, so when people look at other designer's similar outfits, They instantly think of them. I mean...how amazing is that?

anyway...

yeah i thought the same thing. what's worse is that i thought d&g sucked at the execution already.

What I'm wondering about is, do you guys think this copying happens in a conscious way? Because what I notice for myself quite some times is that I've got an idea running through my mind, which seems totally original that moment, but sometimes later on I discover where I've saw it before. Sometimes you've seen some things but you forget you've actually saw it, although the idea is still in your mind, so it looks like you're own idea from then on. I think this must be happening a lot to designers as well..!

i think it has some level of consciousness. Designers dont just came up with ideas for the runway straight up their imagination. there are fabric trends, color trends, graphic trends and silhouettes planned years in advance for the upcoming collections. Thats why some collections resemble others and why theres key pieces to every season on every collection. At the end of the day fashion is business and if some designers aesthetic works for another they use it. Same with past collections from the same designer. Its a shame, but it is what it is.-_-

julien Macdonald was quite inspired this season...by past ricci and mcqueen collections (wwd.com and style.com)

crying diamonds those are GREAT finds.. i think a lot of posts on here are genuinely coincidences, but looks like those designers really took a close look at cardins work.

and Giorgio Armani created a big deal against a pair of trousers that Dolce & gabbana copied by him!!

he should take a look at this thread!!!

I really like these unusual green dresses!

cardin

hes has been considered cheesy over the last few years due to the lisencing of his name on everything, but Cardin was pure genius back in the 60s and 70s...like Gres and also Courreges
