What would you consider to be THE perfect cardigan? What material would it be made out of, what type of fabric, buttons and what length?

I was just thinking about cardigans on my ride back home. I want a long soft pink cashmere one without buttons/zips, etc.

Ooh! Perfect thread! I have been on a sort of cardi hiatus for some time but hope to locate a nice new one soon. After a wardrobe cull early last year I am left with one, saggy black number with a puckered hem
My ideal specimen might be navy, dark grey or black, slouchy but still well fitting, cashmere or merino, with attractive side pockets. Perhaps even slightly chunky, but not of cable thickness. I wonder if it exists below £200, haha!

I love cardis! I've always liked slouchy ones with over-long sleeves to go with my over-long maxi skirts and over-long hair, lol.
For some reason though, people like to give me fitted round-necked button-down cashmere cardigans as gifts. Which is nice, but I have a profusion of them and am running out of styling ideas that don't look old-fashioned...any tips???

I love cashmere button downs slightly slouchy, maybe worn with skinnies or slim fit pants, contemporary accessories and heels. Agree about the leather skirt option too.

Softie...I seriously would NEVER have thought of that...
a short punk skirt...I think you may have found the solution to my entire wardrobe in a singlepiece of clothing...

)^What about some casual trousers, maybe even some sweat-pants? I really don't know if it works, but it's an idea. 
For me, the perfect cardigan is a bit slouchy. A few years ago I used to wear more fitted round-necked button-down ones, but I practically never do that any more.
Now I generally prefer a v-neck, it suits me better.
This one I wear constantly, if it was available in other colours than grey, I would get it in those colours too, and I practically never do that.
