Oh no! Sorry for them for losing such an ideal successor to Mr.Ungaro. The Spring collection was just so right for the house. Wish Peter Dundas all the best.

That really upsets me... Dundas was young, but he had some really fabulous ideas. I loved his take on 70's and 80's opulence and glamour... If anything it set Ungaro apart from everyone else. I guess they would rather just blend in...

Wow, I loved his work for Ungaro. It just seems like the current owner of the company has some stubborn views about the company, losing so many designers. I hope he goes out on his own or joins another house.

Emanuel Ungaro said Thursday that designer Peter Dundas had departed, confirming a report in WWD.

"We thank him for his contribution and we remain fully committed to continuing the legacy of the house," said Ungaro president and chief executive officer Mounir Moufarrige.

Moufarrige declined to give a timetable for naming a successor, but suggested the change in design direction would not disrupt the company.

"There's a great team in the studio working," he said.

Moufarrige is known for taking his time in selecting designers, and for making bold choices. When he was president of Chloé, Moufarrige made waves in 1997 by replacing Karl Lagerfeld with Stella McCartney, then a relatively little-known 25-year-old fashion fledgling.

It is understood management and the designer did not see eye to eye on the creative direction of the French brand, founded in 1965.

Ungaro has had a rocky time on the road to rejuvenation, and has gone through three women's wear designers since the retirement of its founding couturier in 2005. The house also underwent an ownership change in 2005 when high-tech entrepreneur Asim Abdullah bought the brand from Ferragamo Group. Moufarrige also recently named a new designer, Frank Boclet, to rev up Ungaro's men's business.

In a statement, Dundas said, "I want to thank the House of Ungaro and say I am proud to have worked alongside the wonderfully talented people there and wish the company continued success."

I can't say I'll miss him. Ungaro used to be more romantic, sensual with a touch of the exotic. Dundas' stuff was so vulgar looking, the colors weren't sophisticated, the cuts were stale and there wasn't a hint of romanticism to be seen.

I completely agree. Hopefully they'll find a replacement who'll match up to his standards; I very much enjoyed his SS07 collection.

I think apart from him leaving, what is worst is that the brands identity continues to suffer. With so many people designing for the label, they bring their own look, and yet with another designer gone, it'll take on a new look, which I can't say is a bad thing.

Changing designers is like changing customers and starting over again.
That is never good for business if you do it every 2-3 seasons.
The clothes barely have time in the store or worn by future customers before yet another person is brought in to revamp the look.
Those established company lines which have succeeded have had the faith to give the designer at least 2 yrs before passing judgement (example: Balenciaga, LV, Chloe, Lanvin, Dior).
This is a bad omen for the house and signals internal problems. Most likely management looking for a quick fix. They couldn't retain Gianbattista Valli either; I suspect they will most likely face shutting down some divisions because of it.
Corporate greed in fashion is repulsive and is destroying fashion; it deserves its own thread.
I would like to see a return to more independence among designers presenting intimate showroom presentations and less fashion show drama for magazine fodder for one.
Beware the lure of the corporate vulture...

Does anybody know what are Peter Dundas plans ? Is he going to work for another label or creating a line under his name ? I saw many things about Ungaro here but nothing about Dundas future. I'm really eager to know...and to see

This is good for Ungaro , lately the brand was more Cavalli than Ungaro..there was somthing vulgar about it.... I feel the only one who did understand the spirit & vitality of Ungaro was G.Valli.
