NEW YORK
By Nicole Phelps

If the 900-gram cashmere from Fall hadn't already rendered it obvious, The Row's Resort collection certainly made the point: Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen are fabric obsessives. This time around, Sea Island cotton, natural linen, seasonless double-face wool, and a supple suede shared the spotlight with their luxuriously hand-knit cashmere sweaters. Just as significant as the designers' penchant for fine materials is their rejection of trendiness. That's not to say the Olsens aren't responsible for starting trends—they've been doing that since before they were NYU coeds, and if you see women wafting around the streets of Manhattan in caftans this summer, Ashley and Mary-Kate's Spring '14 collection is the reason why. But they don't go chasing fads the way other designers of their generation tend to do.

Perched on leather oxfords by the cobbler Enzo Bonafè, their Resort clothes hewed quite classic. Pants pooled at the ankles and split bell sleeves extended almost past the fingers, but there was a tidiness to pieces like a shell pink sleeveless sheath dress and a tipped cashmere short-sleeve sweater worn with belted wide-leg trousers that bordered on conservative. Resort is an important selling season, so it makes sense that there was an emphasis on elegant simplicity. But the collection got more interesting when the Olsens let their freak flag fly just a bit, as they did with a divine light pink knit mohair and cashmere coat cinched at the waist with a skinny black mink scarf worn as a belt

Gorgeous collection  .
Everything looks so refined and subtle. Once again they play with proportions, lenghts and layerings but it feels so right, so wearable this time. What makes it so desirable too is the fabrics. you just want to touch them, feel that fur or those gorgeous coats in your. The color palette is very beautiful, love that they work with different shades of color. The styling is impeccable, everything just follows naturally and works perfectly together. Very inspiring. It almost tells a story. It's almost as if they captured moments of a woman's life. You can feel the timelessness of the clothes. Gorgeous accessories as well. Especially the shoes which is not their strong spot usually.

This is for sure one of their strongest, maturest and most desirable collection. Some people will say once again that it looks too much like Philo's or Lemaire's aesthetics and it does. But it doesn't bother me. The Row embodies this aesthetic as well, and they are getting better and better at developing it. The long skirt-suit, for example, is by far my favourite look of this resort season. Absolutely flawless.

This Sea Island native approves :buzz:

The first half of this is to die for, and to channel extensively, I've always felt they've done sleeker/tailored looks a million times better than the loose silhouettes they've been hooked on these last few seasons, and finished the second half of this collection off with.

It is indeed a great collection. It feels that the Row has settled into a particular aesthetic and they are mastering it.

i looooooooved everything about the collection...i would buy it all if i could.

great collection - but for me huge kudos go to the model, for giving everything here an extra edge. she really makes this collection sing.

Love every single piece. Also the model looks a whole lot like Patti Smith!
