The Row S/S 2015 New York

By Suzy Menkes
Simplicity has been part of The Row’s appeal. The vision of the Olsen twins, Mary-Kate and Ashley, was a call for decency against the fashion world’s vulgarity.

But when does the ‘discreet’ look turn cult-like and monastic?

There were some lovely, gentle pieces in Monday’s show – especially when fine fabrics were wrapped across the bust, giving a womanly touch.

Or when materials had a surface interest, as with a dress woven golden yellow, like the sun streaming into the downtown loft where the show was held.

The colours, such as chartreuse and rust, were subtle and beautiful.

But some outfits were prim, hiding female sexuality. However tactile the fabrics, who wants to be dressed nun-like, as in a fashion cloister?

This was the final collection of Nadege Vanhee Cybulski, who is leaving The Row for Hermès.

She will take with her a desire for tactile fabrics and noble cuts.

The Olsen twins proved in the early days of the brand that they understand the concept of low-key luxury, and will be able to take the message forward.

finally some credit to nadege vanhee. the best collection i've seen from this label and it's probably no coincidence it was her final collection. i definitely agree with the earlier poster who said this was reminiscent of romeo gigli. certainly should serve as a glimpse of what we might see from nadege at hermes too.

The ONLY collection worth commenting on so far. What a tour de force! This is just absolutely life enhancing! Their best to date. I might cry lol.

American Celine version, it's amazing collection.

I like it. It's very rich and simply, both at the same time... but somehow, it makes me think on a cult.

I have no words to describe my feelings. This is amazing, minimal and so luxurious.

This is simple breathtaking ! I love this brand more and more every season.

this is really sublime, everything feels like it matters and it has been designed in an organic way, its luxurious but not stuffy.

Really stunning, luxurious and elegant. Well...can't really find the right adjectives to use to describe the collection in all honesty.

I've been keeping my eye on The Row for a few seasons but I haven't really been paying that much attention; seems I was missing out!

My thoughts exactly.

This is literally the only collection of NYFW so far that I can say I love. Everything is so rich. If only I could afford it!

I can't say anything that you guys haven't said already, so I'll just reiterate: gorgeous, one of the best of the season (if not THE best), ethereal without frills, etc.

Perfect. Nothing less and nothing more. This is how The Row evolves to become and try to achieve. Now I want to see how the girls will cope after Nadege Vanhee Cybulski has left the house.

rich colours and sensuous cuts and yet they look comfortable - a glamourous ease pervades these clothes. beautiful.
