The Strokes

Just listened to the whole thing. Suddenly Adele's Last Nite cover begins to sound quite good.
My problem with this tribute begins with the bands, I can't seem to like all these new indie bands. I didn't know most of them tbh, and I barely know even the most famous ones, very few have struck me as something slightly interesting (The Vaccines for example, who aren't in the album). It does makes sense though that they wanted new bands to cover The Strokes (can't help imagining how nice the opposite might have been)... it's just a pity that it's so mediocre. At least Owen Pallett's violin version of Hard To Explain is kind of nice.

The mods accidentally forgot to pay for the domain name on time, and when they went to pay it, someone bought it out from under them. They're working on a new forum.

14 Brazilian bands also recorded a tribute album: Is This Indie.
I must say I liked it more than stereogum's Stroked. Sounds less pretentious and some versions are quite interesting.

Unfortunately it's not available online yet unless you like this page on Facebook (or pay the download with a tweet :( https://www.facebook.com/curtarocknbeats?sk=app_178091127385
The only version available on youtube is Banda Uó's Rosa, which is an "eletrobrega" (literally translating: "electrotacky") version of Last Nite...

The Strokes have started work on the follow up to last years 'Angles' album.

The Strokes have started work on their next album.

The New York band are in the studio in New York working on the follow up to last years 'Angles', with producer Gus Oberg.

Gus worked on some of the tracks on 'Angles' - which was largely self produced - and has previously worked with guitarist Albert Hammond Jr. on his solo material.

The 'Hard to Explain' band - which also includes Nick Valensi, Fabrizio Moretti, Julian Casablancas and Nikolai Fraiture - have previously said they wanted to record a quick follow up to their fourth album.

Albert said last year: ''We have songs that you can tell are gonna be good ones that we're all excited to play.''

The group took a long break between third album 'First Impressions of Earth' in 2006 and 'Angles' and Nikolai admitted there was a strange feeling when they first met up to record .

He said: ''When you get back together there was a lot of weird energy flowing around. There are different dynamics in the group in different ways.''

The recording of 'Angles' was also fraught, with Julian admitting at one point he took himself out of sessions for the record and initial work with Beck producer Joe Chiccarelli ditched in favour of the band recording themselves, but the album was well received.

Their agent denied it though... - via NME.com
The report claims the band are working with producer Gus Oberg, who was at the controls for guitarist Albert Hammond Jnr's 2008 solo album 'Como Te Llama?' and also worked on the band's 2011 fourth album 'Angles'. A spokesperson from the band's record label however denied the reports this morning.

Speaking previously about the band's plans for their new album, bassist Nikolai Fraiture admitted relations were strained during the making of 'Angles'. Although the five-piece are now apparently in a "good place", Fraiture admitted that not everyone in the band is contributing equally to the new material yet.

He said: "Some people are bringing in stuff, some are not. There aren't so many finished songs but we have many parts. We try putting them together like puzzles and making them stick."

Fraiture added that the sessions will only kick up a gear when everyone has the time to hit the studio together, commenting: "What we do on our own is not the same as what we do together. We're in a good place as a band right now. I feel like I'm at therapy in a marriage."

Confirmed: The Strokes Working on Fifth Album
Albert Hammond Snr confirms that the band are working on the follow-up to 'Angles'

The Strokes have begun work on the follow-up to 'Angles', NME can confirm.

The band, who were last in the UK to headline last summer's Reading And Leeds Festivals, were reported to have been working on new material at the famous Electric Lady Studios in their home city of New York earlier this month, but this was quickly denied by their management and record label.

However, in this week's NME, which you pick on newsstands tomorrow (July 4) or available digitally, guitarist Albert Hammond Junior's father Albert Hammond Senior has revealed that the reports are true and the band are in fact working on their fifth studio album.

Asked if the band were recording, Hammond Senior said: "Albert says that the stuff they're doing is incredible. They're doing it themselves with their friend, engineer and producer. He just says 'Dad, it's incredible'."

Then asked if he thought it would sound different from 'Angles', he said: "I don't think they'll go in a wildly different direction. Obviously the songs will be different, but I think The Strokes are The Strokes; they always will be The Strokes."

To read the rest of the interview and for a full report on the band's progress in making their new album, pick up the new issue of NME, which is on newsstands tomorrow (July 6) or available digitally.

It's a nice song, it sounds like Brazilian tecnobrega  which is fun, but not exactly what I want from them... Again it's more Phrazes for the Young than Is This It. I was hoping they'd do something more 'early Strokes' after Angles...

Yeah, I don't "get" it. Julian's screeching high-pitched lyrics are horrifying. The techno beat overpowers any traces of guitar or drum playing. So, if anything, it seems better suited for one of Julian's solo albums then a Strokes album.

i dont like the new song either. the falsetto voice is weird. i liked phrazes for the young.

Just received this by e-mail:

hey guys,

it sure has been a while. lots going on these days...

first off, the new album. it’s got a title (Comedown Machine). it’s got artwork (see right). it’s got a release date (3/26 in the U.S. and 3/25 in the U.K. for other international release dates, best to check your local media for upcoming news). you can also preorder it in the band’s store. head over to thestrokes.com for more.

****************

next up, the single...

the first official single is called "all the time" and we’ll have it ready for you on 2/19 when it will be available as an instant download for anyone that preorders "Comedown Machine" @ iTunes or the strokes store.

hopefully you’ll be hearing it on the radio before then though. if not, call your local radio stations and ask them to play "all the time"… they’ll have the track in house by valentine’s day, but probably not before.

****************

last but not least, free music...

that’s right, free. in case you haven’t heard, last friday, we posted a free song from "Comedown Machine" at thestrokes.com. it’s called "one way trigger". it won’t be free forever so go download your copy now or you’ll have to wait for the full-length album to come out soon.

oh, and if you’re one of the new folks to join our list through this promo, now’s probably a good a time as any to say "welcome!" from all of us. so, welcome! you’ll be hearing from me plenty more as we get closer to 3/26, though i think that’s just about enough for now.

in the meantime, all news can be followed at thestrokes.com

until next time...
