I'll copy ryqans latest letter for you tonight.

i actually meant those updates that shall be received by Strokesfans in the blessed US. but do copy the letter anyway, it's a must-have for any Strokes thread.

They have a whole lot of posts for a band I've never even heard of.

A testament to their greatness. You should find out more about them if you like. They are, imho, the best band to come out in the last 20 years.

Ditto!!!!

Sorry if I am asking it again, but is their third album really coming out in July!? :woot:

ryan gentiles writes from lower manhattan: ....

hello everyone,

things have been quiet for THE STROKES, but it's starting to get busy
again...here's some news.
-------
The 5 members of the THE STROKES have been in their recording studio
here in NYC making the third album.
They're about 5 songs into it right now, and they're working with a new
producer....DAVID KAHNE.
No word on when they'll be finished, it will take as long as it takes,
but we're confident that it will come out sometime this year.

------
the main point of this e-mail blast is to fill you guys in on something
new that we're going to try, regarding fan club mail outs...

as many of you may know, we have closed down the official fan club,
ALONE, TOGETHER.

we're going to try and make a FREE mailing list, by using sponsors to
help pay for the costs involved in manufacturing and shipping the
newsletters to your homes....

however, as it stands right now, we can only make this available to
residents of the U.S. for the time being.
the band understands how upsetting this will be to our fans living
outside of the U.S. and we're trying to come up with ways to make it
available globally....but right now, it just isn't possible
financially. the costs to ship and manufacture newsletters for fans
from all around the world would far exceed any revenue we could get
from sponsors....and the point of the mailing list is to be FREE! so
we don't want to ask for any money from any fans to join....

if you live inside the U.S. and want to join the mailing list, you can
do so by going to www.thestrokes.com and you'll see a note at the top
of the NEWS page instructing you on how to join...

we plan on sending out quarterly newsletters and other "bonuses" that
should make it a very beneficial and worthwhile group to be a part of
for any fan of the strokes...

in the meantime, we'll try to figure out some way to extend this to our
friends in europe, japan, canada, mexico, south america australia, new
zealand and everywhere else in the world..... it's possible that for
overseas, we may need to charge a very small fee, but we're just not
sure yet.... please forgive us and be patient!!

i'll be sending out e-mail blasts like this more frequently when the
band is active again, so that any fans overseas won't miss out on the
actual news that's in the mailers we send to homes....

that's about it for now...
the band sends their love and appreciation from the studio!!!
there will be a LOT more touring on this next album than on ROOM ON
FIRE, so we'll be seeing you all later this year....and we'll be sure
to get to a lot of countries/cities/places that we haven't been to
before or that we haven't been to since IS THIS IT touring....

Where did you hear that? Ryan said they think it will come out sometime this year.

The newest Strokes-related news from gawker.com in the sighting section:

I saw Albert Hammond, Jr. at The Sexy Magazine’s show last night. He cut all his hair off (he said his girlfriend cut it). What will all the curly haired mop flopped hipsters do? Oh also the lead singer from Sum 41 I think his name is Derrick? All I have to say is what were Paris & Avril thinking?

The world collectively weeps over a fabulous head of hair that is no more.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!

WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!

PORQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!

the foundation of my beliefs has been shattered into pieces. i am seriously dying for pics of the new do btw.

I seriously laughed out loud to that. I knew you, of all people, Opra, would be hit the hardest by this most unfortunate news. A short discussion of Albert's new do (aka - the dumbest decision he probably ever made) is on the Strokes MB. I'd like to see what it looks like too, but, as someone pointed out on the MB, it's highly dubious he will look as good as Fab with short hair (not that Fab even looked that great). If Albert went that short, well, then he's going to need a serious talking to and an emergency trip to a Williamsburg hair salon.

I went to The Big Day Out, this music festival they hold in Australia every year in a few different states, the other day.. the strokes were there last year, but me and my friend had this huge fight so i didnt go ( break my heart). any way i had the best time it was sooooo good even tho the day began for me at 1 at which point we entered The Hives mosh pitt i lost my friends within 30 seconds and didnt find them untill 12 hours later at 1 ( amongst the 50,000 ppl there i saw everyone except my friends haha) :) i found surregate friends tho so it was fine. i dont know if your interested but i saw
The Hives, Chemical Brothers, The Streets, scribe, Butterfingers, Kid Koala, Beastie Boys, Dallas Crane, slipknot and system of a down from a distance as i thought i was dying, powderfinger and john butler trio. I dont know how many of those bands r known in America or where ever else apart from the obvious. just thought id share.

The Hives were incredible and the lead singer is a fantastic entertainer.. if only our beloved strokes had been there

That sounds like a lot of fun. Yes, too bad Ze Strokes weren't there. Glad you had a good time.

haha remember when everyone freaked out when Fab cut his? I'm sure Albert will grow them back after he realized he looks like bozo the clown without his hair to distract from his too-big features ;)

I'd die if they came to Montreal!!!! :woot:

I'm shocked they've never gone there. I was up there in the Summer and saw some of the venues around town (can't remember the names) and there was one theatre that looks as though it was made for them to play there.

Plus, Mtl is full of gorgeous women - just the kind the Strokes fancy! ^_^

Time for some new pics. Also, let's have a moment of silence for Albert's hair.

Oh, yeah...it's one of me and opra's fav parts...."LIKE A SON!"

ok, i am now quite sure that this picture was taken the same day that it was reported that Drew was looking at wedding dresses with an "unidentified female friend". so basically it's a lose-lose situation. i hate those.

Gawker appears to have confirmed it was Juliet shopping for wedding attire. Alos, they seem to think they're getting married in Feb. (which is really late to start looking for a dress, if that's true).

found this

i think that's Juliet in the corset looking thingy
