I don't think there is a thread on this...but I did not check all 57 pages:blush:

But anyway, I got this done last summer and it worked really really well! I had puffy, frizzy, curly hair and it looked really nice, smooth, and straight. Here is some info about it:

Thermal Reconditioning is a revolutionary Japanese straightening treatment that uses heat to restructure the bonds in your hair so the hair lies straight, giving you glossy, smooth, shiny straight hair that requires hardly any blow drying! Thermal Reconditioning originated in Japan and has been practiced in the United States for just over six years. This treatment has been featured in just about every fashion magazine in America. The process produces stunning results that can last from six to ten months.Even better, whatever hair is treated will stay straight permanently and only the re-growth needs touching up!

Since last year, I think I got it re-touched 1 or 2 times (the only bad thing is she charged basically just as much for "touch ups" as the original cost) and I am going back today because my roots have grown in and doesnt look very good right now. So anyway, I would definitely recommend this if you have curly/frizzy/puffy hair like I did. Just be sure to get a really good person to have it done....and oh yeah, it is quite expensive :( but seriously I think it is worth it because before I would never wear my hair down because I had no way of styling it! Now I can wear it down and it looks so much better.

Has anyone else done it? Good/bad experiences??

And also, I have heard some people say it damages your hair, etc. and one person even said their hair starting falling out or something, but none of this will happen if you get a good person to do it. Even right now, when my roots have grown in and I am starting to get frizz back, it is in no way damaged...it still looks better than before.

you can also go to www.thermalreconditioning.com for more info

I will stop talking now:P

I have had japanese "rebonding" done, I think it is the same thing. I had it done several times starting 4 years ago and it made my hair too too straight eventually, so i went back to relaxing it. Recently, my stylist did a straight perm which is stronger than relaxing but less than rebonding and i love it! it cost $250 for a touch up

Sounds very appealing. I think I saw this done to a woman on Oprah or something. I did look very smooth. But the woman on the show had very thin hair. I think it would look better on a thicker mane.

I have puffy wavy frizzy hair. It does cost a lot, but I would probably also save on hair products in the long run. My hair just keeps getting more damaged the way it is too. Just brushing it when it's fuzzy and tangled pulls my hair out. Not to mention straightening it for special occasions.

I shall consider. :ninja:

I found a salon near my office that does this and am making an appointment tomorrow. I wanted to read the thread before deciding whether or not to do this. I am starting anew in my life and am giving myself a makeover, so this will be part of it! :D

My boyfriend has this done. His hair has gotten very bad after moving to the US, and he thinks the chlorine in the school pool probably caused the damage. It is puffy and a bit frizzy, with a little bit of wave to it - a large change considering his hair was straight and silky black. His hair is very long [upper middle back] so the process takes about five hours.

It costs him around $200-250, before tip, but he is very good friends with the hairstylist. Now my hair has more wave than his and I am jealous!

^ It must cost more for a man to do this in the long run because they keep their hair shorter. I am worried about the price, but it sounds like it will be worth it!

I'm considering this.. not that my hair is curly but it flips out/is wave and frizzy and I have to use a hair straightener on it practically every day to make it look half decent..
I just don't know whether you can get thermal reconditioning anywhere in Europe..

I was reading about this, and the only bad thing (aside from the cost) is that supposedly you're hair has to be in great condition when you go in, because they use such extreme heat.

Has anyone here gotten it done regardless of their hair's condition?

My hairdresser does it on her sister. Her sister's hair is soooo shiny and smooth. Bone straight and so healthy looking. SHINY!

I've had this procedure done three times. The first time, it turned out great..my hair was so straight, shiny, and smooth. Before this, I had completely virgin hair. The second time, I had noticed that the ends were slightly dry. Third time (which was last week), I had noticed more dry ends. I get it done once a year. I'm not sure if the dry ends are because I've repeated the procedure, or because I've switched salons. Nevertheless, it's better than the frizzy hair that I naturally have. I would definitely recommend it, but would suggest finding a good salon, preferably an Asian one.

I got it done and I had the grossest hair ever... honestly it was dry from highlights and frizzy as hell. I wasn't using very good treatments on it either. BUt it was absolutely fine. I never used to wear my hair down cos it was so frizzy and uncontrollable, but now I do this I wear it done all the time. And the other thing is you can just wash it in the morning and not blow dry it or put any product in it and it just dries straight and smooth: no frizz AT ALL. Even if you got swimming! Its definitely worth it :D

i feel so lucky! i got it done for bout 30 dollars.. but it was a couple of years during a mega discount and in asia... it works really well and it really does make your hair reallyyy glossy. Just keep in mind you cant wash your hair for a couple of days after (at least in my case). Oh about the hair condition, well i went to get it done with my friend and the salon wouldnt do it on her because she had dyed her hair. so i guess the condition of the hair is pretty important.

my hair's extremely thick and poofy. i got so fed up with it i decided to get it premanetly straightened.

cons
-Price. Mine was $160ish in Chinatown. That's still less compared to other places. My friends and cousins got it in China for like $50.
-Time. I have really thick hair so mine took 5 1/2 hours.
-Smell. The chemicals they use aren't very pleasant smelling.
-They use a really really hot straightener. Not fun having it so close to your scalp.
-hair grows back. so i went to get my restraightened 10 months after my first one

pros
-I LOVE IT
-my hairs so smooth, straight, shiny and soft
-requires no styling or products. roll out of bed run a brush through my hair and i'm set
I think it was totally worth the price and time.

other random things
-you can't wash your hair or any contact with water for the first 3 days
-you shouldn't put your hair up with elastics or whatever the first week
-the first few days you gotta be careful the way you sleep especially if you roll around

I got the Korean "magic straightening" done at hair salon about three years ago. I had fine, naturally curly hair that had been color-treated. After my consultation, the stylist told me that i'd be a good candidate for the straightening, so i went for it.

Unfortunately, it didn't work out for me and it definitely wasn't worth the $500 that i paid to get my waist-length hair straightened. :( It wasn't even because my hair would get super knotty after a shower or that it was damaged so much that various chunks of my hair became weak & squiggly (zig-zag) when wet and dry. This forced me to always have to use a blow drier & straightening iron on it. Another annoying thing about this type of straightening is that when new roots grow in, you may have an indent as new grows in & if you have dark brown -black hair, you'll see the white breakage points where the indents are.

I really do think that this type of straightening works best with virgin hair or medium-thick textured hair. For now, i use Ogilvie home hair straightening for under 10 bucks. I hate to lose volume @ the roots so using the Oglive home straightening kit allows me to control the amount of chemical straightener on my trouble areas and avoid places like the front-top of my hair. I also found that i don't need to put any chemical straightener on the ends of my hair.:brows:

My hair is dry and has many split ends from using a flat iron on it, but I've never had any sort of chemical treatment done on it. I've done some research and it seems that the main concern is chemically treated hair, not my type of dry hair. Will they still do my hair even if it is dry with lots of split ends?

My friend got this done, long mousey blonde hair, quite wirey, thick, slightly wavy. Her hair always looks beautiful, makes me jealous...

Permanent Hair straightening

Has anyone tried permanent hair straightening?
I know most Korean and Japanese girls love to do this procedure as it is quite popular in asian countries especially korea , Japan and China ^_^
It’s a procedure that permanently straightens your hair until it grows out. It makes your hair shiny , smooth and permanent straight for at least 6 months – 1 year sometimes one yaer and a half.

No blowdrying required:P
I’ve done it twice and I have been quite satisfied with the results. :woot:

My hair was straight , shiny and silky the downside was I had to go for treatments a lot as it quite dries your hair which is bad but worth it

I've heard it can costs up to $800 :(

But luckily the hairdressers I've went to charged $150 , very satisfied with the results as I said before. I had the most disastrous hair before I did this and now the hair is shining :woot:
