I’m not the target for it and in essence, this represents what I hate but on the other hand, I’m kind of admirative of Alexandre and looking closely to his next moves. For me this is cynical at it highest point.
And somehow it works. As usual, very heavy, almost agressive marketing from LVMH and they are really tapping to that desire of being part of the « cool crowd » from luxury customers.
Because the reality is that the basic common luxury customer nowadays is a hypebeast. This will add to the uniform of the hypebeast. We know the person buying this is a Balenciaga/Dior/Raf Simons/ customer.
And I cannot get past the cynism part. On the other hand, the brand is mostly talked about. Maybe they will sell the Peretti stuff more but somehow, people are talking about Tiffany….Much like they talked about Rimowa.
There’s something that I find quite interesting in Alexandre…It’s how much he is on the forefront!
We know Delphine is the number 2 at Vuitton, she created the LVMH Prize and given the fact that she worked with Galliano, she has that eye to nurture talents. She is the one responsible for the hiring of the majority of designers of the group. But in a way, the talents she choose are the testament of her work.
With Alexandre, it’s different. He is very much the CEO in charge. And it makes me slightly uncomfortable…
And about LVMH destroying brands, isn’t it what has always been part of their equation? We can all agree that Galliano destroyed Dior. It was fabulous, flamboyant and very vulgar at times but it definitely resonated with a generation…
