Tiiu Kuik

Thank you Jey! ^_^

I saw this ed of Tiiu in Elle Finland a few days ago and figured out then that these unknown pictures were probably from some other Elle magazine. The names included in this editorial, Petra Middelthon & Åsa Tällgård, rang a bell and I realized they had to be from Elle Norway. They also did the Elle Norway November 2009 cover shoot and editorial with Tiiu!

So, Tiiu also has an ed in Elle Norway December -09! How cool. ^_^ And Svart Magi, I would really like to know which Elle Norway issue this is from! Anyone?

Wishing Tiiu and her fans a Merry Christmas and all the best for 2010!

Do you know this picture is which editorial from?
(source:tumblr/blema)

^ It's from the ed "A poetic spirit" shot by Paolo Roversi, which appeared in Vogue Italia september 2003 :flower:

If anyone happens to know or find out where I might see more of this editorial online, I would be very appreciative. I haven't had much luck so far on my own finding it.

oops, spoke too soon. Found it. Odd, I find this pic transcendant of the rest of the editorial.

It is a lovely editorial......then again I wonder if she's ever done a bad one:huh:
Wish she would work with Roversi again sometime soon.

Really?!
Thank you for the info!

Anyone in Norway know about the Elle Norway editorials..?

yes, that editorial with Roversi was one of the best things i have ever seen her done.

Yay for another beauty ed ^_^ Hope to see scans from it *fingers crossed* ^_^

Well here's more proof of her outstanding editorial prowess:woot:
She really can pose so well, maybe because her body is so long and rangy.
Thanks jey for both these spectacular editorials.:flower:

She's absolutely flawless  She can't do no wrong in print! And the fourth pic with the D&G fur is simply out of this world

Before you became a model, what was your dream career?

When I was a kid I wanted to be a veterinarian. But who knows what would have happened if I had never left Estonia? Traveling is such a huge part of who I am today and has shaped my personality and given me many new interests and passions which I might have never discovered otherwise.

Looking through your portfolio, there is some nudity. Can you remember what your first nude shoot was like? Was it an easy experience or were you worried about it?
My first nude was when I was 21; it was just a year and half ago! I didn’t feel ready before but once I did it, it was the most liberating thing ever! One day I can gross my children out with proof that mom too had a perfect young body long ago. And if they ask- there was no re touching in my day!

We already know that you and Michelle Buswell are good friends and have been for quite some time. You two even got to work together on a shoot by David Bellemére last year. What was it like working with your best friend?
I loved it! It was more fun of course but at the same time weird too. We are so used to being completely honest with each other that it was a little difficult getting in character, which all of a sudden felt like lying, and also being serious all day. But after the job was over we stayed in Brazil for a few extra days and had a blast surfing, kayaking, riding bikes, shopping and taking tons of our own pictures!

What was your impression of the fashion industry before you became a model? And how has it changed since you started your career?

I didn’t have an impression! I didn’t know any photographers or models. The only one I knew was Carmen Kass who was a superstar in Estonia at that time so she was hard to miss. But I had no interest in any of it otherwise.

Throughout your career, you have worked with many notable photographers like Paolo Roversi and Steven Meisel. Was there anybody who you were nervous about working with?
Not really because as I mentioned before I didn’t know anybody and therefore was unaware of their importance in the industry until a few years into my career. I kinda took everybody as just another guy taking my picture. The only person I remember being in awe of was Richard Avedon because the other model(I think it was Nicole Trunfio) that day had brought a book of his to the set and leafing through it I discovered that he had shot Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn and the Beatles and other legends that I knew. I got a bit of a stage fright after that. But he was sweet and told stories over lunch which made me just sit there with my mouth open, soup dripping out half the time.

There is nothing scary about Paolo Roversi by the way! He is the sweetest man and he puts you at ease instantly. His pictures of me are still some of my favorites.

part 2, same source
In the second part of our interview with Tiiu Kuik, the Estonian model shares her thoughts on runway vs. print, some of the harsh realities of the industry and her philosophy on personal style.

When you are not working, what do you like to do in your free time?
I read, watch movies, catch up with friends and spoil my dog Baylee. I love doing spontaneous random things like little trips on a moments notice or going to a shooting range, camping or just to the amusement park.

On online forums like The Fashion Spot, you have a lot of fans who follow your career. What do you think about models having fans and what is it like to meet them?

I can only speak of my own fans. I love them and thank them for all the support over all these years! Wow! Whenever they are excited for me I get really excited about my work too. Its fun to get to see your career through somebody else’s eyes. Hopefully I get to meet more of them before I am done!

How would you describe your personal style?

My style is always changing. I like playing around with fashion and almost every day I theme it to my surroundings. So in NY it is a little bit rock where as in Paris it would be more vintagey and girly, in Brazil I wore a lot of bright colors and sexier cuts and so on and on. It is fun! Such an easy way to express yourself! I don’t believe in fashion don’ts so everybody- have fun with it! Maybe one day when I am older I will commit to just one thing too.

What advice would you give to girls entering the industry?
Oh I have so much advice to them! Too much for this interview. Most of all just enjoy the ride while you can! Remember we get paid so much because our careers last a very short time. So be nice to the people you meet on the way up because you will meet them again when you are on your way down (and sooner than later you will be on the way down…I know its a bummer) One day you’re in, the next day you’re out- as they say in Project Runway! ;) Save your money! Don’t underestimate the power of being yourself- people will appreciate it in a sea of fakeness. Do your best to remember everybody’s names! (I am so so bad at that no matter how hard I try!) Don’t forget your childhood friends. They will never kiss your *** because you are doing Vogue and that will keep you grounded. And have a plan B ready.

Do you prefer runway or print? Why?
I prefer a good mix. I think doing print gives a model a better chance of being creative. It can be very interesting. Runway is fun just for the excitement of it. Some shows, like Jean Paul Gaultier and John Galliano for example, can be as impressive as full on Broadway productions. I have seen people so moved that they cry watching them and those are the moments when you really feel proud of being part of the fashion world. It is just amazing working so close to these incredible artists that have single handedly shaped fashion into what it is today. They created items that we now call classics! And I get to be in the same room with them and they want me to wear their clothes! I will never believe that it actually happened to me.

And finally, where do you see yourself in the next five years?
I hope to just be healthy, happy and a lot smarter than I am now. The rest is easy. I think I wanna write…We’ll see.
