Tim Burton

He's amazing and I'm really looking forward to "Charlie..."! Tim is one my absolute faves.

Tim Burton is wonderful - he has been on of my favorites for years. Anytime that Tim & Johnny Depp team up, you know it will be a hit.

Especially with Johnny Depp's collaborations! Ed Wood, Edwaard Scissor hands as I recall and now Charlie and the Chocolate Factory! I hope those Oompa Lumpas aren't as annoying as the old version. They scare me.

Tim Burton is a wonderful director. Extremely talented. His visuals and creativity is outstanding. I watched Big Fish yesterday and it was beautiful.

Oh yeah....the illustrations! I have that book of poetry of his "The Melacholy Death of Oyster Boy & Other Stories". All those wonderful characters.

And he also did those beautiful invites for Alexander McQueen's A/W 2002 show.

I  that book.

Does anyone have a picture of the McQueen invites? I would love to see one.

I always got a sense of déjà vu when watching any of his films... and not just because of certain elements running through them all - snow, the brightest colour against black and white, gargantuan machinery that does little or nothing. :crush:

But Charlie and the chocolate factory didn't have the effect I hoped it would on me. Yet the prospect of The Corpse Bride is giving me a reason to live. :P

Batman Begins was awful. Christian Bale was also awful. How exactly a good director and a fantastic actor managed between them to come up with such rubbish is beyond me. I can only presume that Oompa Loompas using polyjuice potion replaced Tim and Christian and then had their wicked way with the film.

Other than that, whatever Tim Burton is smoking, I want some.

^ i think someone called chritopher Nolan directed Batman Begins (i just saw an interview with him). Tim Burton directed Batman (with jack nicholson's joker as the bad guy), and I think he also did Batman Returns (with danny de vito's penguin man and michelle pfieffer as Catwoman), which both starred Michael Keaton as Batman. after that he and michael left the franchise, and things got progressively worse. the movies reached an all time low when joel shumarcher signed to direct (i think it was he who brought us George Clooney's incarnation as the caped crusader). so burton hasnt done a batman film in about ten years, but i think there has been a downward trajectory in the quality of his films nonehteless.

just some more trivia in case anyone is interested: i always love the quirky scores to his movies, and i remember noticing a few years ago that quite a few, if not all, are done by danny elfman (who's responsible for the simpsons theme). The sense of eeriness he evokes suits tim's movies perfectly.

That's a relief. Thanks for the info.

(the one with Danny DeVito as Penguin is the best Batman, I think)

ooh, I didn't know there was a Burton thread! :D I'm obsessed. Well, not really, but does anyone have anything to say about Ed Wood? I am about to watch it, and it is one of the only Tim Burton films I haven't yet seen.

And how do you guys feel about Charlie....? I, personally found the movie visually brilliant, but I am still undecided as to whether Johnny Depp or Gene WIlder is a better Willy Wonka.

 Big Fish (with Ewan !!! :woot:)

I'm addicted to Tim Burton's works... animated movie, figurines, everything! It's true that the Burton/Elfman team is excellent, whenever I go see movie previews with my friends they wonder how the hell I am able to hum the whole Edward Scissorhands theme because it's been re-used so many times.

Oh and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was really good too.
