Definitely his most flattering womens wear under his label! Saint Laurent comparisons will abound, but I think it's more the hair and makeup than the actual clothes which are very womanly and sultry in that signature Ford way.

I'll always love and respect him for his past work, but I don't think I'll ever find his work (for women) under his namesake label exciting at all.

It doesn't feel as dated as his previous collections but I wonder who is his cliente? A TF loyal who used to buy his stuff when he was at Gucci? Because I fail to see who else would bother buying this far-from-groundbreaking collection apart from that kind of woman. Yes the quality is there, but when you're capable of paying TF-level prices, surely you can afford any other designer for similar products which would probably a tad be more exciting.

Plus, what's up with the grotesque hair and make up that seem like a poor interpretation of what now seems to be the SL by Slimane look? TF's leading days are long gone...

Yes the quality is there, but when you're capable of paying TF-level prices, surely you can afford any other designer for similar products which would probably a tad be more exciting.

Well, more than any other designer store I've been to (aside from Hermes on Faubourg de Saint-Honore), Tom's is consistently the one of the busiest with real shoppers. I pop in often, as I don't live far from his Madison Ave flagship, and it's always filled with customers (and I mean ACTUAL customers...not just tourists or passerbys) - weekday or weekend.

I think people on TFS and other internet fashion communities give Tom a hard time because he's been deemed un-intellectual and "poor taste," especially in comparison to his contemporaries who are going along with the minimal-esoteric, Celine-esque or Raf/Dior trend which is currently the be-all-end-all, but I think we all tend to forget that most shoppers out there in the world want to buy clothes that make them feel good and look good - they don't want to wear a big, shapeless walking art piece. Tom gets that. And that's why he's got such a strong and wide-spread clientele.

I think people on TFS and other internet fashion communities give Tom a hard time because he's been deemed un-intellectual and "poor taste," especially in comparison to his contemporaries who are going along with the minimal-esoteric, Celine-esque or Raf/Dior trend which is currently the be-all-end-all, but I think we all tend to forget that most shoppers out there in the world want to buy clothes that make them feel good and look good - they don't want to wear a big, shapeless walking art piece. Tom gets that. And that's why he's got such a strong and wide-spread clientele.

+ I don't think Tom wants to be as directional as he was during his Gucci/YSL days. I own a few pieces from his namesake brand i can tell that the quality is amazing. Tom Ford is quite popular in the business world. I know some women who prefer to wear Tom Ford instead of Celine or Hermes in their workplace because, it is less "show-off" (how ironic).

Just asking because I see you're located in France (as I am), and whilst I know many women executives who spend a lot on designer clothing, I don't think I've ever seen any of them in TF (with the exception of one, and it was one of his bags) . His stuff seems more US/RU nouveaux riches-oriented... (I share your sentiment regarding the irony of calling his stuff "less show off" )

Some of them are french like myself but i have to say that it is his tailored pieces that are prefered. Some of these women are German, Japanese or Italian. Of course, we can't deny the US/RU clientele. He still have that "cool factor" that separate himself from the Cavalli & Pucci. But those latest collections are much more better than the first ones which were very baroque and quite Nouveaux riches.
The "less show-off" comment was about the accessories and mostly the bags because Celine RTW is still satisfying.
