Too Simple

I been asked this question all my life by my close friends and relatives. They all tell me, " Why pay so much for something that is so basic. " I tell them because it makes me feel more confident and assured. It's not easy to sum up the reason why in a few sentances, but if one could ask the question to easily... In my opionion, there are two kinds of people in life-- extroverted and introverted... Obviously one can guess that the one wearing a Gucci shirt is the introvert. To me being called introverted is one described as looking on the inside out. While extroverted is one who just assumes the visibly obvious from looking on in. When I wear a Gucci shirt, I know the seams are tightly stitched or the length of the shirt is tailored to my torso. Something you just can't find off the track at an H&M sale. And this makes me feel assured that I can be as free and accomodating at the same time.

Or as my mom says, years ago one paid higher prices for better materials, good tailoring, perfect finishes, wonderful prints, hand made finish.

Nowadays one pays higher prices for famous brands, which may offer all of the above in their articles... or just average quality with a label stuck on.

It is very difficult to judge the quality of a brand-new product, but it speaks for itself after ten washings or coming back from the cleaners. Good quality ages beautifully. I am just not so sure that a shirt from Zegna is sooo much better than Arrow, let's say.

The appeal of the shop plays an enormous role psychologically speaking. At Zegna everything looks just right. At H&M?...:(

I saw a plain black ribbed chanel T shirt

for $1,000.00 :ninja:

I mean, maybe it was a really thin ribbed black short sleeve sweater-

but it looked just like this

banana Republic

Most designer items are of a decent quality. A Gucci shirt will better made than one you can get at J-crew, but definitely won't be a Charvet.

Read Andro's last post. I can assure you it didn't look like that.

were you there?  it certainly did-

it might have been made of cashmere- but it was nonetheless- a crewneck, short sleeve- ribbed thing- and looked like that

Well there you go, that's the difference, the fabric, cut, ribbing - that adds to it. Did you try it on? I distinctly remember your saying you didn't - so how do you know how the fit was. I agree, $1000 is excessive (unless it's cashmere - where it is more expected to be at that price, since Giorgio Armani cashmere is at a similar price levelfrom my experience), but your saying that it looked exactly like a $20 cotton tee is an extreme exageration. They're not idiots, to price their goods at $1000 when it cost $0.50 to make.

Once again, there are many people who cannot tell the difference between a Zara and a Charvet shirt. God bless them, how lucky they are!

that brings up my question once more-- about the two types of people in this world... introverted and extroverted

neither is right or wrong, but it's more rather a "state of mind"

one can be like and feel just as fine in a basic Banana tee for $20

while the other knows their hand-rolled ribbed Chanel knitt cotton is almost 20 years old, not $20
