Tough shoes with dainty dresses

Oh my god! I loveee the whole dainty dress + tough shoes look.

I love a variation of this look where they have more of "functional" heels or rider-ish plain boots rather than neon coloured Doc Martens.

I love wearing my New Rocks with girly dresses

In other words... girly dresses meet aggressive and mean shoes and boots? I love a real girly-girl look. While I'm no rock star harda**, and while I don't hate very girly stuff like some people, I think there can be an actual imbalance that ends up looking great. I don't want to think of this as ruining something girly and sweet with something hard. Look... I have no problem however anyone wants to dress. I just don't want to think of this as intentionally ruining a cute look with something hard.

Disclaimers and explanations aside, I can attest a little bit to what this style is like the way I observe it. There was one episode of "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" that I saw once. Nia Long (Will Smith's girlfriend in the series) once wore this lovely long dress, but paired them with these lace-up combat boots or hiking boots. Hiking boots were pretty popular among femmes the past decade. They are what I would consider hard boots to wear with almost anything girly. I've even seen some Japanese femmes cosplaying with girly dresses and huge platform boots (before huge platforms were eventually outlawed in Japan).

I hate any kind of rock star mentality about a lot of things. I'll probably admit that something like this can be pretty fun for those that can sport the looks best. And even though I'm not crazy about open-toe boots like most other people, I will admit that Jane looks great with her look. Don't know if I'd classify those boots as "tough" boots in the context of this thread. The rest of her look is amazing.

Now those are one thing I can't abide, New Rocks, they just say 'industrial goth' to me. DM's don't have the same thing as I spose I wore them in 91 onwards to gigs and clubs to stop my feet getting massacred by stagediving and horrible drunk boys.

new rocks are hideous. they should honestly be banned.

while this look has become a bit ubiquitous, i still love it.
i find it interesting to combine styles on opposite sides of the spectrum.

I liked the way it was showcased at Isabel Marant :flower:

I did a search online to see what New Rock boots are like. So here's a link of a few New Rock footwear when I did a search:

Here's my thing about pairing cute girly dresses... with aggressive boots. First of all, you risk throwing off the balance of the entire look if done wrong. There are some aggressive boots that could be paired with a nice dress. Anything TOO aggressive looks terrible and almost looking like a Hot Topic reject. While I don't really like tall lace-up boots, I would probably go with a pastel yellow sundress or maxi dress and paired with either black or brown lace-up knee-high boots. I wouldn't wear combat boots. Save them for if you're part of the armed forces. No need pairing combat boots with these dresses.

The thought of girly dresses paired with New Rocks takes me back to my junior high/early high school years 15 years ago. I did this several times a week, with Doc Martins, construction (type) boots, or keds, and topped it off with a denim jacket. I probably had 10-15 flowy, flowery dresses in my closet.

What's the saying?

"What's old is new again."

I think I'll skip this trend this time 'round.
