Very true, and sadly I don't think the old VF can ever be replicated, since no magazine will ever have that kind of budget again. I subscribe to Air Mail, and it sort of scratches that itch when I want that kind of mix (society/true crime/rich people problems), but it's sort of "old VF lite" and not really comparable to Graydon's print product.^ even though the quality of writing (and certainly of reporting) is nowhere near what Vanity Fair has produced, T&C certainly helps fill the void in other areas. Dishy, society-driven, with a clear identity. One of the few magazines I will still sometimes read cover to cover.
