^Ahh... okay... I know it's quite popular but whenever someone I know say's they are going to Paris I practically insist that they go to the musee de orsay.

Hello guys! i'm currently planning my summer holidays and i would like to attend one of the summer course at the Sorbonne University, i'm thinking about the 4 weeks french language and civilisation from 4th to 31st of July...but from what i've read on various forums and website it seems like staying in paris during july is a terrible idea: all the parisians desert the city leaving it to the tourists, most of the exhibitions have already ended, many places are insanely overcrowded others are already shut etc.. *
since i've already visited Paris once and done pretty much all the "classic" spot, i'd love to immerge and blend myself in the local life so i would like to know from those of you who live in paris what is the situation really like?!thanks in advance :flower:

* add: another curiosity: what is the university calendar in paris?because where i live on june and july there is the summer session of exams, so students definitely don't leave the city and august is more like the month of summer holidays
Most students will be done between mid-May and Mid-June. If they don't pass their exams then, they have another session in September so yes, some students definitely go abroad to do internship quite early in the summer or just go on holiday.

Immerge yourself in the local life? Depens a lot of where you will be staying. Which Sorbonne will you be enrolled in? Sorbonne nouvelle? I would say: try to socialise as much as you can, you will be able to enjoy some nice stroll around (Marais is really a must), go to some terasse and just lounge and do nothing. Enjoy the restaurants, the parks, all those kind of things since you have already done the touristy stuff. I also know that there are now some locals who show their arrondissement around and all the little things/places most tourist don't know about Have a look at that :)

Even though the course it's from the Paris-Sorbonne, the classes are not taught in the Sorbonne itself but instead in other buildings like the Maison des Etudiantes.
i still have to book a room in an apartment, which area would you suggest me? TIA :flower:

^
so i took french civilization classes at La Sorbonne
this semester.

my girl returned to Paris, and i came along. i did it for the student visa.

but yes, i take 20 hours a week of classes.
it is divided into grammar classes, phonetics, and conferences of art,
gastronomy, culture, music, history etc.

i need to take it again next semester if i want to stay in Paris (i am an american) or find a full time job that is willing to sponsor my visa...

fyi. yes, the classes are not at la Sorbonne. but near Montparnasse for grammar, at la Estrapade for conferences (which is right next to the Pantheon) and Rue Dante for the phonetics. so you may want to get a place near here. the administration is of little help, considering how much you are paying....

I'm going to be staying in Paris with my husband during the second week of December (I hope to see some Christmas decorations!)...

I will be utilizing AIRBNB to stay in an apartment, so at the moment I'm trying to decide which arrondissement to stay in. At the moment, I've narrowed it down to either: Canal St Martin, Montmartre, or the 9th arrondissement. While I'm not exactly fluent in French, I am a seasoned traveler and would like to experience an authentic but romantic neighborhood experience if possible.

Any suggestions? Thanks so much in advance :flower:

For me it would be the Marais but Montmarte is a very, very romantic place. If you decide to stay in Montmarte you can walk to the Abbesses quarter for more cafes, boutiques and a lovely merry-go-round.

Wherever you decide to stay, be sure to walk away from the main streets/tourist areas for a more authentic experience.

Anyway, Paris is such a romantic city that you really can't go wrong wherever you stay. Also, be sure you are staying near the Metro as it is very easy to get around that way.

Glad you are renting an apt. It is the best way to go.

Bon Voyage!

^Merci Beaucoup

I ended up securing a super hip apartment in SOPI. Does anyone know more about this South Pigalle area? Thanks again!
