Travel Guide : San Francisco

The weather is variable but the temperature doesn't really go to the extremes. It rarely gets very cold or very hot (temperature wise, the rain/wind can make it seem reeally cold). I light jacket should suffice, and bring shoes you can walk in comfortably because you'll probably be walking a lot and there are a lot of hills.

Can anyone tell me what the weather is like in San Francisco right now? I am going there next week for eight days and I am having a lot of trouble deciding what to pack as it's my first time there and the weather seems so variable. Is a trench coat too heavy for this time of year? Cashmere? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The weather is variable. You should bring a variety of clothing, and I suggest things that you can layer so that you can add and remove layers, as the weather can vary a lot in just a few hours or within a few miles.

In the city, lows have been in the low 40s and highs anywhere from the low 50s to mid 60s (F.) It rains at times, and sometimes it is windy.

Thanks so much :flower: What strange weather! I think I will have to bring my largest suitcase to accommodate all of the stuff I will need for layering :innocent:

There is so much I need to know about San Francisco too! I'll be there from the beginning of June till August 28th. What goes on in SF during the summer? What are people like? Where is the best place to get an appt? Is there a subway???

^ Another (more minor) bump!

My fiance and I have decided on the San Francisco area for our honeymoon. :) Napa, Sonoma, SF, and perhaps Caramel...

I've gotten some wonderful first-hand knowledge from this thread! I'll probably be lurking around if any other info pops up... so much to research...

We're visiting at the end of June. Like so many others, we're on a budget. :) Must find a place to stay... affordable... some cool coffee houses or bakeries... we're really looking for local flavor. We moved to LA in '08, but still have not made it north.. Also heard the Redwoods are a must-see, but I don't know if it's too far??

best coffee shops in SF, imo.. ^

- ritual / 1026 Valencia Street
- four barrel / 375 Valencia Street
- blue bottle / 66 Mint St

a bakery i loved was Tartine / 600 Guerrero Street(they've opened a bar now too..)

i love this city, i want to go back :woot:

^ Thanks, adorefaith. I'll have to keep those in mind... (Seriously... I'm writing them down!)

Well, we saw and lived San Francisco for two very short days...

LOVED IT. Though, I knew I would.

We stayed at the Hotel Mayflower, which, at $90/night (not including tax), FREE parking, and a delightful breakfast, was a fabulous deal. We didn't take a car anywhere... we walked... to Chinatown, Fisherman's Wharf (though a bit touristy), Coit Tower, the Ferry Building Marketplace, etc.

Some highlights:

Muir Woods (on our way in)
Chocolates at Teuscher Chocolates (if you have room for a splurge)
Alcatraz (it's $26 for a ticket, and that includes a boatride there... pretty awesome if you haven't been there before)

And we had an amazing dinner at a restaurant, and I cannot remember the name... they had the most amazing lobster bisque...
