Two special covers by Barbara Kruger:

How can so many modern fashion magazines bungle simple studio photoshoots so consistently? The legs look unnatural and uncomfortable in that pose.

The vibe they're trying to go with the Chanel reminds me of this 1966 issue of Elle France I received in the mail today (again, these magazines might be rotting my brain), but I just... can't figure out what is going on.

Edit: And I don't meant to come off as someone who's constantly dreaming about a "better" past when it comes to fashion magazines and fashion imagery. It's not that it isn't as *good* as the past, but to me it just seems like there's practically zero effort put into anything published these days.

Looks like a French Elle cover. What bothers me most is the shoes, looks like they're too big for her.

UK Elle always had the we strangest model casting.

Futuristic in an enigmatic way. Her pose makes her look robotic. It’s not bad, it’s thought-provoking.

UK Elle tries hard to remain true to being a traditional fashion magazine, but if UK Cosmo gets culled by Hearst, I imagine the print edition of Elle will move a considerable step closer to being cut.

The brand names will remain as online entities trading off their historical associations.

I wonder whether Red performs better? Or has a better subscriber base/newsstand sales?

the unfitting shoes do bother me. But I like that they feature Barbara’s work.

It's so badly executed that I find it blatantly cute... Especially with those shoes.
Honestly looking forward to the editorial, if it's cut from the same mold (though, some outdoor shots would be warmly welcome).

Answering my own question here, but the ABCs (combined print and digital) for women's magazines in 2021 (as per Press Gazette) showed that UK Cosmo was outselling those other Hearst titles, yet also suffered the biggest drop in sales from before:

Average per issue - UK/ROI total - % up/down in sales - % actively purchased

Cosmopolitan - 138,243 / 123,615 / −26% / 85%
Red - 116,243 / 106,284 / −16% / 87%
Elle - 109,568 / 99,480 / +3% / 36%
Harper's Bazaar - 105,047 / 87,010 / +3% / 35%

The ABCs for 2022 won't be long in coming out.

UK Vogue sells more in general (190,192 and down only 1%) while UK Tatler and Vanity Fair have much smaller circulations, but they target a more niche (and monied) market, so you can have that smaller audience but a more effective reach with your content/advertising. I would imagine UK Bazaar benefits from a bit of that as well.

She looks like a little girl playing dress up. The shoes and stockings are quite unfortunate.
