Best Edit #1: Doutzen shot by greg kadel. 15 brilliant pages. doutz and kadel have been doing awesome bazaar work lately & this is derfinitely at that level. I loved elise by demarchelier in uk vogue jan 06 but this is almost TWICE as good. brana wolf's styling is just fantastic: ysl, rochas, lv, givenchy, chanel, mcqueen, I seriously love every page & look in this stunning, luxe spring 2006 feature. doutzen has become a major top level girl & its sad that anna wintour doesnt give her much in US vogue. its to bazaar's benefit that they have doutz here & kadel shows a simply outstanding studio spring 2006 story. awesome. 7.85 of 10.
Best Edit #2: querelle and diana dondoe shot by sundsbo in even more formal but just as bright & happy spring evening looks. querelle is blonde here & its about the best look ive ever seen on her. she actually looks a lot like an oost, whose early 00's sensuality was so hypnotic. well querelle is channeling some of an's energy here & diana, who is definitely in the top 10 models of 05/06 by almost any chart, is even better Given DD's powerhouse history, diana is actually demure here, but its no loss she is smoulderingly sexy. I know diana has been compared to cindy crawford in the past, i will simply say imo diana is a million times better model than cindy ever was. diana packs the sophistication of a jackie O look here: anastassia barbieri really came through with the styling: gucci, fendi, versace, D&G, prada, cavalli, missoni, youve got to see these girls dancing around, working these really strong S/S 06 looks. this story is actually the perfect foil to kadel's- the tone of these 2 studio shoots is similar and all 3 girls are wonderful, & the s/s looks perfectly complementary. this is high level sophisticated image making & magazine fashion here & Im more than a little impreseed with everything incl barbieri''s styling & diana & querelle's powerful performances.

3rd best edit. inguina shot by lubomirski in resort looks. 12 pg edit. love inguna, shes another bazaar standout in the last 6 months. wintour really missed the boat by ignoring doutzen, diana, winberg, and inguna. I like the resort vibe here, jenny capitain with quality ralph narciso, blass, prouenza, ch, but i still find lubomirski slightly lacking in the pics, although these motion images are better than usual. while the styling is certainly functional, its not on the impressive level of wolf's & barbieri's in 2 focus stories above. still I love inguna & she does resort well here, would love to see inguna, diana & doutzen in a swimsuit story, along with julia, winberg, baguc, snejana, vlada. its a nice resort story but inguna really is what makes it go. 7 of 10.
cover/ 4th best edit: julianne moore by lindbergh. its a good cover, shyly beautiful with the emerald tones & moore's siganture, delicious red hair. lindbergh shot some intimate moody & fine pics here, great hair & make up too, and julianne with her 2 red haired kids is really cute. this is a lot better than your average bazaar/vogue celeb story & lindbergh' subtle touch here is really impressive. winslets xmas cover in december was also subtly really strong for a celeb, and lindbergh, who can be among the world's best photogs, is on his game here, too. yet julianne gets all the focus as it should be. jenny capitain's styling is good, only 1 page/look is a dud, mouret 119 cos the pose is awkward. otherwise this is a really good celeb cover & edit & lots of credit to lindbergh & beautiful moore. rating 6.7 of 10.
edit #5: fendi special with vlada, julia, inguna, snejana, solange, anja, mariacarla. 4 pages of backstage / runway looks, cunningham once again is superb with the backstage of julia, inguna, vlada, , so its a decent fendi close -up but also not a real edit. still the girls & looks are strong, its pretty good, rating 5.5 of 10.
edit #6 karl lagerfeld photos delphine arnault's wedding. usually love KL's pics but even he cant make a wedding album great . I like the incidental details, images like the cake, car, invites, & some family, but still its just not one of KL's true fashion / model edits. its nice as far as wedding pics tho. rating 5.25 of 10.

Hot Ads: Selma Blair Chanel eyeglass ad. smart vision as always by Kaisar Karl. selma's chanel eyewear ads are the best thing Ive ever seen her in.
VERDICT: For a January issue, this is really outstanding. I dont care if US Vogue gets most of the attention, when bazaar [and W] are at the top of their game they are at least as good as us vogue is, and many times even better. The girls are wonderful in this issue, dondoe, inguna, doutzen. the photography is fresh & pretty by sundsbo & kadel. and the fashion and runway looks are also excellent, lots of s/s 06 show pics & strong fashion perspective stories edited by wolf, barbieri & capitain. moore's celeb cover/edit was also better than I expect from an actress story. this issue bodes very well for the 'new' bazaar in 2006. TWO BIG THUMBS UP FOR JANUARY 2006!! I can only hope for more resort/swim stuff with great girls like doutzen, julia, winberg, jeisa, elena baguci, louise pedersen, vlada, dondoe, raquel, liisa winkler, lonneke, yfke and marija. a wonderful way to start the New Year - Happy 2006!!!!
