These are just some observations from the photos I've seen from the justjared blog (thanks for the link, kimair!
Reese Witherspoon's photo looks very much like the work that was done for February's W magazine (perhaps it was one that didn't make it into the editorial?).
I LOVE Jake Gyllenhaal, but I've got mixed feelings towards his portrait. The expression (a little too neutral) and the pose remind me of a glammed-up headshot with really good lighting. He's a gorgeous guy, though, and the tousled hair, white t-shirt and dark trousers - very sexy. I'm also a fan of Annie Leibowitz's work, so there's also that trademark quality there.
The George Clooney shot is amazing. Once again, it's Leibowitz at work here, which accounts for the quality of the photograph. It's a recreation of another photo taken during the pioneering days of film (it's in my Vanity Fair's Hollywood book somewhere), and a very good one, at that. However, much like the cover, I'm not keen on the fact that Clooney's the only one fully clothed, while all women are only in underwear.
The ones I wish had some better pictures were Viggo Mortensen (another beautiful man, but in a very oddly conceived shoot), and Eric Bana. When I saw Bana's, I thought, 'Ick - looks like something Terry Richardson did.' Enlarged the photo, and lo and behold, it was Terry Richardson.
AGH. It's too bad the issue's not available in Canada yet. It'll probably be out next week, and I can't wait!
