US Vogue April 2021 : Selena Gomez by Nadine Ijewere

Really lacklustre cover. It's great to see US Vogue working with more new talent but I wish they were able to pull out the best in them. It'd be so exciting to welcome in a new guard of photographers and have it be a really exciting and diverse group of people, but also have the end-results be of high quality.

This particular style of photography that we're seeing a lot of nowadays isn't my favourite, but I think Nadine can do better than this. Everything seems really poorly composed, Selena's poses are weak..it's just not good.

I can't get over the fact that in another time I know Anna would have scrapped this the second she set eyes on it, I think that's what makes the whole thing worse. I understand aesthetics change and photography trends come and go, but it's not even a quality version of this type of shoot.

Who the hell is the photographer??? Needs to go back to school !!! BAD PHOTOGRAPHY OMG
The styling is atrocious too :boxer:

Selena got no time for your crap no more

I've never understood her fashion appeal, or appeal in general tbh.
Everything about her is basic.

That rumor about Madonna's daughter Lola, getting this cover should have been true,
but Anna really doesn't have that ahead of the curve vision anymore. Now she just hopes something gets likes on instagram.

IA. She does exude basicness. She doesn’t seem to find her footing or narrative in the whole pop music sphere, hence her publicist’s attempt at turning her into a fashion superstar with deals from the likes of Coach and LV. But Selena aside, the whole cover and editorial just look so dull. The cover is slightly better but the post-production or overphotoshopped sensibility gives off a somewhat Testino-esque vibe. Looks like someone’s been missing him shooting her covers.~

Reminds me of to Tyler Mitchell. Her VM editorial was better than this.
I guess Allure magazine will be better than her big sis for another month.

the gossip blogs are not saying super good things about selener.

her face is puffy bc of her alcohol problems (allegedly exacerbated by her kidney situation) and that is clearly an issue for her since they tried to shop definition onto it.

Allegedly.

Anyway. Everything with GKJ involved is non event unfortunately. At least is is fresh - like springy.

It bothers me so much that “HER CAREER” is noticeably smaller than the rest of the headline. Not because it’s her career, but because visually it looks stupid and amateur.

Anna just don’t care anymore...
She saw how social media applaud basicness all year long and she jumped on it.

Very lackluster! Unfortunately, Edward and Farneti slightly woke up this time...

the photos are awful and mostly unflattering, she (not her fault, but still) still looks like a child playing dress up, the styling is horrid. Another month, another flop

You can literally see where the filler is sitting in her cheeks anc I think she got that eyebrow thing done - sad

This is fine for a like an online editorial but the actual main cover??? Anyway interesting to see Anna continuing her Gen-z outreach lol

Selena is a singer? I thought she was an actress.

She is a hugely successful singer. Not my jam but she's got a couple of decent bops.

I love Nadine but I do not love this editorial or this cover.... we needed more glamour.
