US Vogue August 2012 : Marion Cotillard by Peter Lindbergh

What in the world is this issue? I feel like I'm looking at Redbook or Self not Vogue. This is literally one of the most disappointing issues in quite some time. Not only are the eds completely out of place, but where is all the new fall clothing?

my thoughts exactly, this issue is awful:doh:

I love that its not heavy on the fall clothes, even if that is usually the case. It feels pretty fresh for an Age Issue.

I like how when a fashion mag features women who are clearly over the age of 15 and (gasp!) even middle-aged people start whining that it looks like Redbook or whatever. Women over 30 are stylish and have the money for the clothes featured in Vogue so it would serve fashion magazines right to feature these women on more than a passing basis.

I think the family eds are gorgeous (Guess what? Motherhood can be stylish and high fashion too!). I love the more natural photography in outdoor settings without heavy photoshop.

the eds are all lovely so far, but i am not buying this issue of US Vogue for the 1st time in these 2 years, i guess i am just disappointed with the magazine, i wish they could use more models.

^ More models? This issue seems to be pretty model packed, imo.

I'm really not seeing what's so offensive about this issue. It's a very refreshing issue, especially before September.

My main problems are the lack of dramatic fall clothing (everything is either swimsuits or basic shirts and trousers) and the fact that everything feels like a feature not an editorial. I guess they've saved all their cards for September, the time to really go all out on editorials.

i didnt say that it is offensive

its just the eds are kinda "okay pretty but boring"

Joans sister looks exacly like her :o

Have you ever seen The Body Guard? What's more strange to me is that her sister looks A LOT like Whitney's sister in the movie, who hired a hitman to kill her.

I like the Bruce Weber edit the most of what we've seen. Tatjana's ed is nicely done, also. This issue seems to be more conservative, or more like the US Vogue that most tFSers loved to complain about about 2 years ago. But I think it's kinda nice. Not something I would buy.

Actually, I was disappointed when I read the review but seeing all the editorials now I feel very different. It's a beautiful issue celebrating family. Patti Hansen's editorial is especially stunning. It's very touching to see all these fashion people being normal and loving with their families. Vogue, you know, doesn't always have to be so cold and aloof. It can celebrate something simple too and mix fashion along with it.

This issue does lack model editorials and the cover is pretty bland. I'm sure the September issue will be fully loaded like someone else pointed out.

^Since when are Patti Hansen and Tatjana Patitz not models?

Typical Bruce Weber and it's so nice seeing Lucie de la Falaise with Patti Hansen!!

I actually really like this issue. It's quite refreshing to see such beautiful, carefree and natural eds like these and real, mature women, especially for the Age Issue. A little bit of sunshine and wrinkles are good sometimes.

i just saw this issue in a store and picked it up to read Marion's article. (which was lovely).

but -- when i came upon Tatjana's editorial, i literally gasped, out loud, in public. she was never my favourite of those 90s supers, but she is the one who has aged the most gracefully. there's not a trace of any enhancements on her face. she just looks stunning. like, take my breath away stunning. i am SO happy to see this piece in Vogue. it's refreshing to not have any photoshop and to see a middle-aged woman's face, a celebrity's i mean, that isn't pumped and filled and smoothed.

Fast Forward

^Thanks a lot for these. Once again Steven Klein's is the best contribution in the issue.

The Patti Hansen ed also features lots of her daughter-in-law Lucie de la Falaise, I was happy to see that! And a bit of Keith. Again, the magazine's layout and font looks fresh and modern. US Vogue is in a great place.
