US Vogue August 2012 : Marion Cotillard by Peter Lindbergh

What in the world is this issue? I feel like I'm looking at Redbook or Self not Vogue. This is literally one of the most disappointing issues in quite some time. Not only are the eds completely out of place, but where is all the new fall clothing?

My sentiments exactly. I'm underwhelmed with the issue, aside from Tatjana by Peter Lindbergh. Although I have no doubts over this providing excellent reading material, until the September issue arrives.

I just love Tatiana's editorial. It's a classic!

^Since when are Patti Hansen and Tatjana Patitz not models?
I don't recall saying they weren't but their editorials focus more on them as individuals than models. Even still, the issue is lacking editorials and models.

^ The age issue is usually the only issue a year where we get to see models as people (aside from wedding features), I think it's kind of refreshing.

After finally having the chance to go through the entire issue, I have to say that I felt that it was pretty good for the age issue. I loved how they profiled the women who have in a sense grown into becoming who they are now. The material or issues covered definitely made for an interesting read. I did however think that the issue of plastic surgery and young girls have been over played and more than talked about and I also would have liked a bit more about Joan's growth in the industry to become the "star" that Anna described her as. The magazine is definitely stronger than it was a couple years ago and I could see women especially the New York crowd reading it.

I agree, Modelo. To me, this is the best Age issue they've had recently. And yes, the article on plastic surgery is a redundant topic, but probably one that warrants more education. Overall, I loved seeing the actresses and models in more of a natural setting. It's so great seeing them so happy and relaxed.

Tatjana's editorial is Beautiful, One of the best from Vogue US this year.

I agree with you, it was such an unexpected and refreshing surprise, and obviously beautifully executed. I also agree with getfashion that it would have made a better cover choice.

I'm on the team that says that this is one of the best US Vogue issues in a long time. The Richards' spread was absolutely breathtaking, so many details to the photographs, amazing styling.

This issue reminds me of what I love about 90s Vogue. All very effortless and beautiful, nothing too try-hard, none of the cliche moodiness that all the fashion magazines seemed to have adopted these days, real women instead of the coltish teenage models.

I don't get the comparisons to Redbook or Self, to me if I flipped through this without a cover it would scream US Vogue, an identity I feel hasn't been clearly enough defined for them recently.

I agree with you completely. Such a beautiful issue, I love how each woman was portrayed, especially Tatjana. Not to mention that Grace has done quite well once again

I love the models' marriage features  Thanks for scanning!

This image would have made a better cover! Too bad it was left on the cutting room floor. I hate that amazing pictures like this one doesn't end up in the magazine.

Just re-read this issue and I still love Marion's editorial. Peter is great with making his subjects look soft and beautiful. Also, I think its time we see Marion on the cover again. Its been too long.

I think the cover as it is is beautiful. I get why they didn't choose that shot ^. It's not commanding, and there is no energy.
