Can't wait to see the editorial contents. I really am not impressed by Hansel and Gretel. I don't think Annie Leibovitz is any good at fashion stories, she should stick to Vanity Fair and leave it at that. I want fashion in a fashion magazine!

Well I like the Lily ed, the use of people as trees is genius and she looks like she once did in 2004/5, at her best! Too bad Lady Gaga only got two shots in the end.

The Daria ed is with the typical M&M style and it`s not that exciting or interesting!

And the sad thing is, it was already done by VF this year, for their February issue. Same thing! Her at the theather, actually they did a better spread, it was way more fashion worthy than this redux!

I cant believe Wintour would think this is in any way shape or form worthy of doing again, and for December issue, so unoriginal. In fact whole issue is a major let down, only couple of articles i like. Overall its lackluster...

I was going to say, I always feel like she is photographed exactly the same for Vanity Fair and Vogue, they never go anywhere new with her.

I don't see why people are complaining about Leibovitz's fashion eds...IMHO she's probably the only photographer who can do them as well as she does. Can you imagine Testino or I&V shooting this ? There's always an intimacy and chronology to these types of work...the pictures jump out at you so that (non-fashion interested) people who are just flicking through are pulled in and captivated by the clear narrative. The whole way that celebrities, designers and artists are cast next to the ideal focal point of the piece, the model could be a recipe for disaster if the team were different, as the model would get pushed to the background or vice-versa, but Annie has a way of making the chemistry very natural and realistic...the casting in this ed is completely spot-on. If Meisel were to shoot this I'm sure the model & clothes would look amazing but the other elements such as additional actors and locations would be more minimal making it less of a 'story' per se.

Well anyway I really like this story, it's not as good as some of the past ones but I'm just trying to outline what is appealing about her stories, since seeing her exhibition I have really come to appreciate all her work (even though her covers for this magazine are too frequently overdone PhotoShop messes)

God, I wish atleast one magazine would portray Cate as a punk rocker or anything besides the Hollywood glamour thing she always does. Maybe if she was in V.

I like the second picture of Cate's ed. I can't complain because I didn't see her ed in VF Feb so I can't compare. The first shot reminds me of the cover of VF though. I'm sorry but I really can't see Leibovitz's talent in VOGUE as a photographer.

Oh well, this is US Vogue. I can't depend on the cover and the choice of cover star. I just hope the eds and the articles make up for it.

Though I like the editorials Daria does with M&M, they bring out a sense of superhuman athleticism, like she's born to wear a swimsuit and rule the world. Even in the more emotionless shots, she's still the most good-looking cyborg I've ever seen emerge from a swimming pool.

I think what goes wrong in this new editorial is that the opening shot of her on the diving board is amazing, and the rest don't really match up to it.

Overall I agree with you, exept for the intimacy part. Although her pictures are alsways visually and technically stunning, they are most of the time too perfect, too polished, too sleek, too airbrushed, too over-produced. Not exactly me idea of intimacy. I'd rather see a colourful pictorial with lush happy, smiling and partying models by Testino or simple b/w studio portraits by I&V. In both cases the photographers put a lot more intimacy in their work compared to Leibovitz.
