Oprah wears Ralph Lauren on the cover! Sorry for the terrible snapshots,
I was in a rush, I'll try to scan it when I can.

^^Seriously! :ninja:

Thanks a million, i really hope i can get this issue, Oprah looks great. And this was one of the best selling Vogue issues ever, they sold 900.000 copies on the newstand alone.

OMG WORK Ms. Winfrey . Do you have the issue, Xavier? Could you post a review if so?

BTW mods, shouldn't this be moved to Vintage Mags since it's over 10 years old?

Interesting... Can't wait to see the review.

Yeah, as soon as I'm done catching up on my subscribed threads i'll make a review for you guys! Miss Dalloway, I'm always looking on eBay for Vintage issues, so i'll keep an eye out for you if you like:)
Also I'm a little rusty with the models names, so bare with me, I'm stuck in the whole Trentini, Anna J time

Xavier, thanks for your snaps. If there is a chance you could snap Winfrey's article to read, i would very much appreciate, because would love to see how she and Van Meter hit it off.^_^

Also any other snaps from this issue would be great, i like how the cover is super clean of text, its beautiful. And surprised to see Paul styled the ed, shame he is mostly at Allure now.

US Vogue October 1998 Review:

Absolute Couture
Model:Carolyn Murphy
Photographer: Steven Meisel
Fashion Editor: Grace Coddington

This editorial is obviously full of the seasons best Couture, It takes place in a beautiful restaraunt and Carolyn has on some of the most beautiful glamorous gowns,
but there are also studio shots with her in very fantastical creations. I really liked this one!^_^

Night Light
Model:
Photographer: Peter Lindbergh
Fashion Editor: Grace Coddington

Some girl running around in a forest with elegant gowns, nothing new.
Clothing is quite minimal, but still beautiful. No idea who she is but she's fabulous!

Peak Performance
Model: Carolyn Murphy
Photographer: Michael Thompson
Fashion Editor: Paul Cavaco

This editorial makes me wnat to get into any sport that requires the athletic gear that was photographed,
it's a studio edit, but I really liked this!:p

Great Lengths
Model: Angela Lindvall
Photographer: Carter Smith
Fashion Editor: Paul Cavaco

Angela Lindvall looking very natural in a farm setting, with a lot of comfort clothing,
makes me want to take a break from the city and go to a farm:lol:
Overall the editorials are mediocre, but some inspiring.

so why hasn't oprah been on the cover since then?

^^ I think because she created her own magazine in a collaboration with the rival publisher (Hearst!) two years later, and her magazine has a strong base of reader's that is almost as high as Vogue's. :ninja: All of which of course made her competition.

Thanks for the review, it is indeed nice to see Paul everywhere in this issue, and Smith/Thompson shooting for it.I love how when you look back 10 years ago at Vogue cover's, you see what was going on at the time, they had The Spice Girls & Hilary Clinton on the cover in that year aswell. You can also see how more and more celebs started taking over the covers, although that year still has plenty of model's.

This issue has Iconic conotation aswell, since she was the first famous black woman to grace the cover. There were just models before her, of course.

Cool! Thanks for posting. Really a lovely cover, IMO.

I was just wondering about this issue earlier today, after I saw a preview of the cover in Anna Wintour's thread. I like it, along with the spread.

Thank you, XavierRaphael! :flower:

I think I remember Angela's and Carolyn's ed..... a little bit. Thanks for the info ;)

Just moved this to the vintage forum, since it is over 10 years old.

I wasn't looking for it, but I just stumbled upon a really great quality scan of the cover for anybody interested.
