US Vogue September 2008 : Keira Knightley by Mario Testino

Does Keira Knightley actually sell magazines well?

I mean so many people dislike her; I wonder who she appeals to then?

Most definitely she does. Sure... many people dislike her... but she's also a very popular actress. I noticed her thread here in Star Style is closing in on 1-1/2 million hits.

I just picked this up yesterday, Knightley's hair looked so much better inside than the cover! It's a really thick issue, but most of it is ads.

Does anyone know if any places in the States are selling it yet? I've had a hard time finding it.

I know of quite a few people who like Keira, including myself. And I imagine that Vogue US sees big numbers in sales when they put her on their covers, which would explain how often she appears on them. So yeah, a lot of people dislike her, but just like any famous actress, a lot of people do really like her as well.

Most definitely? How come her June 2007 cover was the biggest disaster of the year then?It didnt sell!
She isnt a great seller like Jennifer Aniston.etc so its a gamble for US Vogue that they put her on September cover and i am sure the sale results will follow accordingly.

As for her popularity, i doubt people hate her, its just that she is pushed down our throats all the time and touted as the great thespian which she obviously isnt, and then there is her personality or thereof lack of it that puts me off.But i liked her in and enjoyed couple of her movies.

I saw it at both B&N and Borders on Tuesday of this week. I don't know where you live in California... but if you live in a major city [like SF or LA] it is available now... otherwise I would think it would be available by Friday or Tuesday of next week at the latest.

But that's all a matter of personal opinion. I think she is a great actress (what were people expecting, Oscar nods for her role in Pirates Of The Caribbean? :innocent: I thought she was amazing in Pride & Prejudice...), I like her style, and she seems like a relatively cool person to me. So yeah, to you she's omnipresent and a terrible actress with no personality, but a lot of people think just the opposite.

^^Of course its all subjective  i never presented my opinion as a fact, its just how you got it, i did stress that its all just how I see it.

^Well, sorry if I misread it; but you say she's ''touted as {a} great thespian which she obviously isn't,'' while to myself and apparently some others, she actually is a talented actress. And anyway, even if you meant it differently, there are tons of other posts in this thread make exactly the comments I'm talking about. It's annoying to read 'she sucks, no one likes her' eight thousand times over when clearly that's not so... and I'm not even that big a fan of hers.

Yes... I feel your pain cestmagique... I think I might fall off my chair if I actually saw some people posting in these magazine threads show any respect for anyone or anything but themselves & their own ego.

I didnt mean to disrespect people that appreciate her work, or to make it sound like i am speaking on behalf of others. To me she is not a great actress and i dont think she photographs particulary well for someone breathtakingly beautiful as she is, and i am completly sick and tired of seeing her face on every magazine every single year(there are faar more deserving individuals imo),not to mention hearing her whine about how hard it is to be famous over and over again.

But i actually understand and know what you mean, its just how it is these days, especially for famous women, wheter they have scandals or not, the negative comments will be there, courtesy of saturated celebrity culture we live in with all the gossip blogs and tabloids throwing images and news at us...the days when actresses were built up and cheerished are gone. But reality is always different and i dont think even someone like Paris Hilton is as hated as we think.

The fact is they did take a risk by putting Knightley on the cover after she sold so little the last time. But she does have a new movie coming out and it all ties in. Jessica Simpson isn't exactly great at anything and she manages to sell magazines so I don't think it has much to do with actual talent or even likability. And Keira would not be the second highest paid actress in Hollywood if she wasn't doing something right. And as far as her whining goes- that has more to do with the people interviewing her and asking her the same five questions. If people actually asked interesting, different things we might get a different interview- but luckily she doesn't have one in this issue so there is nothing to worry about!

I completely agree with you, actually, especially with your second paragraph. I really have no bone to pick with you, I've misinterpreted what you were saying; it's just that a lot of these magazine threads become so anti-celebrity and overly critical, more as a trend than because people actually care that much about it. I think part of the reason I like Keira is that I don't sustain myself on E! News, Us Weekly, et cetera so she doesn't feel like an imposition in my life at all  (not saying you care for those things by contrast, of course). People bring celebrity culture into their lives to the point that even the nice, normal actors/actresses/musicians become unbearable to see and hear about. They moan over every celebrity cover like they're having teeth pulled. The funny thing is that when magazines switch it up and put models on their covers, people b*tch about that too. It's like a sport... people have been conditioned to pick everything apart. They get more pleasure out of being dissatisfied and being able to complain constantly than they get out of actually liking something...

Hopefully that didn't seem too off-topic. I agree with what kylenrose said-- I'm sure Keira's not the broken record interviewers make her out to be. It's like they don't even bother viewing her as a full-fledged person; all the interviews rehash the same questions time and again. I think they just tag actresses with certain descriptive phrases (I guess Keira's would be 'skinny' and 'fame-averse':lol:) and then market them forever under that context, it makes them easier sells.

Coco is really every where this September. Two edits in here and Two in Bazaar. Astonishing.

Thanks for the scans, Luxx. Coco looks gorgeous!

Anna Maria Jagodzinska? Nice and oh my god Caroline Trentini! I'm so glad she finally found her way into US Vogue, and Keira is a nice surprise too. What a refreshing and innovative casting.

The hair on the cover is horrible and her head looks too big for her cover.

omg i had actually bought this!
