who is she wearing on the covers?
American Vogue’s September Issue: Leaks, Rumours and Making History
The truth about Anna Wintour's latest September issue featuring Beyoncé Knowles.
By Chantal Fernandez
Love everything minus the Haweksworthesque filter
Page count is nowhere mentioned, I wonder if the number is smaller than in the previous years...?
The second cover is the best. But I must say after the endless rumours and hype, this really is a bit underwhelming. When you strip the politics concerning the photographer away, it's basically your standard Hawkesworth edit.
And I hope this is the last headdress cover we'll see this September!
Gucci in first one
I adore that first shot of the editorial, wish that was used as a cover because it is beautiful!
I’m usually the biggest Beyoncé fan and very biased but I’m sort of torn with this cover, I feel it is different and something new for Vogue US but not ground breaking in terms of style, I love that is the first time someone has covered the September issue twice and also that it has been shot by the first black photographer for Vogue US but I’m slightly underwhelmed with the result of the covers!
I understand that it is similar to Rihanna’s British Vogue September cover but I personally think apart from floral headpieces the two covers are completely different in style!
I like the editorial but find both covers pretty underwhelming. As said by others, too Hawkesworth-esque.
^^^ Alexander McQueen in second!
My first thought when seeing the covers was "Wow they are so warm and inviting!" The whole mood is very different from what I was expecting originally. I personally love both covers; Beyonce looks very beautiful. Now I can't wait to see the rest of the contents!
Looks incredibly low budget.
That’s perfect then. It looks totally appropriate for our era of overpriced oversized sweaters and chunky sneakers, talentless designers and easy creative tricks.
It’s maybe the glossiest version of it. At least, it’s cheap but well executed...
Love the editorial! The shot of her from the back is sublime, as is the one on the stairs.
Both covers are beautiful, but I'm slightly more in love with the second one tbh.
Two black female superstars on the September covers, of two major fashion magazines is incredible!
It will probably never happen again, so I'm gonna enjoy this.
Congrats to Tyler! I hope this is the beginning of many great things for him. #BlackExcellence
Can we talk about Vogue claiming that "the concept and the photographer was entirely Vogue’s"? How did that not happen in 126 years, or at least in the 30 since Wintour took over? Please.
This was posted by MDNA in Cover Rumor Thread. Seems like it's the thinnest September issue in the past 5 years or more.
This exceeded my expectations, but they're usually quite low when it comes to US Vogue. Tyler Mitchell did a nice job, hope to see more of his work. Can't believe he's my age though !!! Is he the youngest photographer to shoot a Vogue cover?
Underwhelming, like many here have said, Tyler's work doesn't really take any risks, personally I find it boring but it's nice to see him grow with every shoot that he does... Beyonce looks great and I appreciate the message she is sending to the younger generation.
It says that it was suggested by Raul Martinez...So it was Vogue’s decision. It was a safe bet considering that Mitchell did Teen Vogue and also worked with Beyoncé.
About the 30 years of Anna at Vogue, as I said before, everybody is responsible. From the previous creative directors and all (Mr Talley, I’m thinking about you).
But at this point, there’s no need to add more to the conversation. What we need is to see the impact of this and the inclusion of MORE TALENTED people at positions like that. We can’t change the past but we can do better in the future...
