Julia was completely out of her league here!! But then, so was Karen. I suppose you cannot excel at everything.
Having seen loads of experimental dance performances, I can safely say this doesn't even come close to a basic recreation. Great composition and lighting, but that's about it.

This is not bad, but it reminds me so much of this 2004 editorial by Michael Thompson for W, just not as exciting

This is okay but it makes me cringe a bit. It also reminds me of the A/W 2016 ad campaign by a department store called David Jones in Australia that featured the Sydney Dance Company. This is much better executed of course but still....

Because you've got good photography taste, and I'm a sucker for W x Thompson, I actually bothered to click on that link. Couldn't see the reference, I'm afraid.

I'm reminded of Versace ad campaign from spring/summer 1999 also by Meisel. But I don't feel the Meisel Magic in this.

It's very different from anything else right now so it's a little exciting, but not more than that.
