Valentino F/W 2023.24 Paris

so, the name of the show is ‘Black Tie’ and he literally put 95% of the looks with a black tie

boring AF. what a parade of uninspiring looks. probably 2 or 3 interesting things to look at.

someone give me this time back please.

those heaps of garish embroidery piled on top of each other are starting to make this look like an elie saab outing. ultimately it's just another catalog of vapid boutique merchandise. there's nothing particularly interesting here, or even tasteful. some of those wool coats are nice (i have an optical monochrome coat from fall 2021 and i can attest to the quality and craftsmanship of these clothes) but this collection has absolutely no focus or logic, and the 'black tie' motif is as banal as it is stupid.

five or six years ago he may have had an interesting vision for the maison but over time that's been diluted to whatever the f*ck this is. most of the women's passages look like clubwear. really this is just more fodder for the brainless instagay/high fashion twitter hyenas. i think it's time for a change in direction.

these shows feel like such a waste of time now. bring back the défilé.

Valentino dressed the jet-set...this looks "bus stop-set" at its worst.

What is this bow nightmare??:

if literal black ties were the thing, Sarah Burton did it better over at McQueen this season - both the ties and the clothes in general (is it just me or does it feel like ties are making a comeback on womenswear runways after the LV A/W 2022-23 show? Nicolas still moves the needle in some ways, I suppose)

at least the shoes look walkable, 2 shows in a row with models falling over - including a super - seems to have taught Valentino that particular lesson.

(side note: that video really needs editing, the first half hour of a show video shouldn't be just guests posing and set dressing)

I guess all the Valentino table at The Met will be « On theme » for the Karl exhibition…Some cute pieces here and there in this lackluster collection.

This was really bad and boring , where is the Valentino identity in all this? The horrible soundtrack and creepy makeup made it worse, I would say this even worse than Nina Ricci at least there was something which was eye-catching. Definitely one of the worst Paris shows easily.

Why does the music in the middle sound like the theme to Friday the 13th (ki, k,i ki; ma, ma, ma)? Guess it IS frightening.

A very so-so collection. It's not a complete disaster but it's not good either.

Few looks reminded me of their Fall 2015 collection (B&W checkered) which is not a bad thing for me.
I find the black tie styling quite forced and gimmicky.
And the menswear is too juvenile, it's dragging the show down. He needs to stop putting them together.

It's not the worst thing this week.

Valentino for Gossip Girl.

Why has he suddenly become such a one-dimensional designer who would take a theme this literally?
