Valentino Haute Couture S/S 2025 Paris

Haute couture is more like a haute caricature.

For him, couture means big embroidered gowns, endless layers of tulle, and an approach that is maximalist and excessive, lacking intention or substance. Looks like he doesn’t have anything to add to the conversation besides “big gowns, and even bigger gowns”. If this is his approach to couture, then I’m sorry but his voice isn’t needed.

I mean I’m not even mad at him anymore since he delivered exactly what I expected from him.

I’m gonna move on from his Valentino just like I did from his Gucci. This time it’s only taken me 4 collections.

We cannot deny the technical brilliance of this collection, which is precisely why we will continue to indulge him. Who else is truly capable of producing anything that remotely resembles this?

The collection veers wildly, offering perhaps 8 or 9 pieces that are Very Valentino. This collection is too often interrupted by Alessandro's Venetian pageboy fantasy. I find the armor-inspired dresses quite gorgeous. it's the sole Renaissance reference I find worthy of admiration within this collection.

Alessandro, without a doubt, demonstrates a profound mastery of construction and is a couturier.

Is he really or he he a Grand costumeier

It's tiring, it's too much. You can see the preciousness of some of the pieces and his amazingly creative mind, but it's just toooooooooo much and makes anyone who watches this tired.

I was listening to Vogue's podcast yesterday where he said he was learning to edit down because of couture. He needs to learn more! There's an improvement in casting, it needs to improve more.
He needs to find a better balance between his big personality, be less egocentric and value the legacy of the brand in a less literal and softer way too, when needed.

After watching that I don't think he gives a s*** about the brand or the legacy he's a show off but in all that he's showing something that I could care less about there was some wonderful pieces but they were all covered up with mask theatrical fluff.

My comment after seeing the first and the third looks is…

Who’s going to wear that?

(Yes, I know the first look is inspired from one of the old collections BUT the OG didn’t have such a huge volume that drowns out the wearer… this new one is… :glare:)

Anyway the scrolling text at the back is Demna/pretentious AF

Edit: THE SHAPES THE SHAPES THE SHAPES why are all the gowns so Demna’s Balenciaga!!??

Thissss!!!^^^

Very much, “Who is going to wear this?!”

I tried to see if any of these monstrosities could work on the red carpets probably a couple will work but the rest can burn at the stake…

It’s all very ugly.. In a bad way at that… and like some have said it’s all too much at once… A sensory overload no one asked for.

Ultimately wasn’t expecting much anyway .. And unfortunately we are going to have to endure this crap from him for a while :(((

Quel désastre!

He makes it clear to us over and over again that he is technically brilliant and can produce some beautiful clothes, but his creative vision is so dusty, dated and heavy. Basically he sucks as as a CD. He needs someone to guide him, not strike that, tell him what to do. Looking at this is just like reliving the fugliness of fashion circa 2016 and no matter how low you think the bar is now for designers, I can't think of an era I hate more than the mid to late 10s!

Hahaha Lady St. Petsois Juju on tFS, finally lol

Jokes aside, I appreciate seeing those archival reference looks posted above, but they only underline the problem. If you reference the archive, you’re supposed to make it modern, build on the house codes and elevate it into something new. It’s a lot to digest, gut at first glance, his takes feel like caricatures on steroids. Need another rewatch to fully come to a pov
