Valentino Mens S/S 2020 by Hugo Comte

It’s not bad.

I’m a fan of Hugo’s work, and think he has a lot to offer. I think he needs to push himself a bit, though. It’s a bit too early in his career to be predictable. I like that he as an immediately identifiable look to his images, but I feel as though I’ve seen this exact same picture from him before.

I’d like to see him shoot mainline women’s Valentino campaign, or even do a Couture advertorial for them. Work with a more lush material, and less street.

Ugly collection and the styling is just a mess.

I really like the photography. It’s very 2000s. Where it fails is the awful styling. Are they still trying to push sneakers in 2020? Want an easy sign that a brand is desperate? Just look for Sneakers and Kendall Jenner.

It's messy without any real meaning to the mess. A rim of paper, fence, water, almost-spilled water, queue poles. What is going on???

I guess it's like at Drag Race when the queens shoot commercials or whatever projects they're assigned and they get a random pile of props and pit crew guys to use. Except Hugo didn't select certain props, he just shot the entire pile.

Zero direction and the token black casting strategy is so 1990s
