Vanity Fair November 2024 : Cynthia Erivo & Ariana Grande by Norman Jean Roy

Cynthia cover is ok... Ariana is terribly bad!

'Tis the November 2024 issue, the September one was Selena.

I thought this film came out months ago.

I can't even get the month right myself. Never try to enter dates on an excel sheet while tfs-ing.

It feels like no time at all since the last issue came out, which makes the sight of this one feel exciting, but aside from that, it might be another issue of Vanity Fair that's not very relevant for me to read.

Ariana Grande looks like a spectral waif, like she's fading into a different dimension, whereas Cynthia Erivo looks like she could perform musical theatre like it's an Olympic sport.

I really wish Ariana and Cynthia had fully embraced their characters for this cover especially since they're promoting Wicked. It’s obvious this isn’t a fashion magazine but I can’t help but wish they had taken a different approach on set. Maybe a more colorful backdrop? It feels like they just stumbled upon an old bar and decided to use whatever was lying around as props letting Ariana and Cynthia just hang out and mess around with it

Cynthia looks bad in all the photos, Ariana looks beautiful, even with her eternal pained face.

Imagining what this could’ve been if it were one of those old school Annie x US Vogue holiday editorials. These are nice enough although the expressions aren’t great - they look so serious.

All of them are awful, and Cynthia should sue.

a hot *** homewrecking mess

this cover and spread affirms my decision to not support this long drawn out wicked movie

they've been promoting this for almost a year. i'm tired. iono the last time two leads of a big budget musical have been so unlikeable and non-photogenic. ariana looks sickly and that other one... vanity fair at least tried, but no. no to it all.

They're hideous covers, but for some reason I can't quite put my finger on... they actually make a lot more sense on Vanity Fair than Vogue to promote Wicked. I'm sure they'll end up on a few other covers promoting it.

Ariana Grande's expressions are atrocious. She always seems to be trying way too hard, and that blonde doesn't do her ANY favours. This whole Wicked portfolio feels perfectly suitable and appropriate for Vanity Fair but it does absolutely zilch for me...

Vanity Fair is really pushing this movie, their March issue this year had a whole spread with many photos of pretty much the entire cast. I was never a music theater gay, but I often enjoy a Hollywood musical. This, however, looks intolerable. Cynthia has all the right backing and I’m sure is talented but no one cares. I get industry plant/astroturfed vibes. Ariana is more and more annoying by the minute - best pop album of the year though!

is glamour, beauty, lightness, and effervescence illegal now? Wicked is such an easy concept to do a high-fantasy glamour shoot with, but instead they ran with the same realist, simplified, darkened, industrialist look they put on everything these days

Poor Cynthia. She’s an incredibly photogenic woman, and an even better performer, and I can’t recall her taking a bad picture, but these photos don’t portray her in a flattering light. If I weren’t familiar with her, I wouldn’t be inspired to google her.

Also, um…where’s Jonathan Bailey?
