so, here's the style.com review:
i gather she did quite like it!
MILAN, September 29, 2006 – Donatella Versace has a thing or two to teach the youngsters—and a few of the oldsters—about how to bring back the eighties. She hit that spot with a tour-de-force performance in the corsetry department of her show. First came a high-waist girdle-bikini, then boned basques set into liquid jersey, followed by shiny full-metal dresses with sharply faceted bras.
There's a difference, though, between flagging up a trend for the sake of a showstopper and making clothes a woman can put on without excruciating agony or ridicule. Versace solved that with technology: The robo-woman metal shards are actually plastic. On the body, they weigh nothing. With that, she sealed the collection with a well-wrought Versace stamp, glancing at the past, but reflecting forward into the now.
The rest of the show—which steered clear of eighties theming—reinforced the feeling that Donatella is moving things on. Having personally reached a point of clarity and good health, she is working Versace toward a new sense of reality. The daywear dealt out the current short cocoon shapes and Empire dresses in a pared-back way. Even the prints—wavy, oversized seventies graphics—seemed relatively restrained. Compared to the scattered and sometimes slapdash performances of past seasons, this looked like another step toward reclaiming authority for the house founded by Gianni Versace. The figures concur, and that's credit to the emergence of his sister's womanly point of view.
I am so happy with this collection... I think it is sexy without - for once - being trashy. The prints are great, the cut is great and I am even more happy that for once the nightgowns are not just shimmery sequins, plunging necklines and endless skirtsplits. Finally she shows that she can do other gowns as well and they are fantastic!
whats up with the mannequinn that they are using backstage at the Versace Show? it is in horrible condition! The dress on the other hand is somehing special!

i have never liked what Donatella has done with the house...so trashy!
This season it seems like she's matured. Im surprised to say I dont hate the collection like I usually did with past ones. good for her!
um and Prince front row- priceless!
This collection is very nearly flawless. I have always enjoyed Versace though its been at times one of those labels that I like in theory but would never really wear. There is something about the excitement and sex appeal of a Versace collection that will always appeal to me. This collection however is chock full of things I would just love to wear. I adore the metal touches on the gowns. And that solid gold dress on Stam is enough to make my heart skip a beat. I see the McQueen influence but I also see a bit of an Azzedine Alaia touch to the construction of the va va va voom gowns. Very 80s but Donatella is pulling from the absolute best of the 80s. Not the overdone loud portion of that era rather the powerful amazonian element of 80s dressing.
I feel torn about the casting. I love the Versace regulars like Hana, Eugenia, Emina, Doutzen, ecc....but at the time it's refreshing to see new models walk this show. DV wanted to show a different Versace woman I assume. And actually, Sasha didn't look so bad. I knew it was only a matter of time before she showed up there.
The word "Versace" has gotten really off-putting by mere association for me, so I'm very surprised that I can say I actually really like this. I'd even wear quite a bit of it. Well-done, Donnatella.
To me the last Versace woman would be Sasha. She's so UN Versace. Versace is usually represented by somone more like Hilary Rhoda who was indeed there and was sizzling.
