Versace S/S 2022 Milan

It started out pretty decently but then descended into chaos and vulgarity within no time. Shame. Being bought out by Capri was probably the worst thing that has happened to Versace. The quality of the collections, both aesthetically and literally in terms of fabrics, has deteriorated progressively ever since.

The menswear is literally copy-paste from Riccardo Tisci's Givenchy but in Versace prints and colours. Don't get me started on the casting! So lame.

Not offensively garish, like last spring, but totally unexciting, you would seriously need a 90s cast of bombshells to spice this up into something passable!

There are any number of Istante and Versus shows that were much more coherent and expensive looking, diffusion lines seriously need to make a comeback because now mainline shows are infested by outlet fodder and it's a chore to go through them.

A lot of the looks were just atrocious but some were okay and bearable. I like the color scheme here. Love how they used hot pink and purple and teal. It's fun. I would honestly take it over the dullness which Prada served last night.

This collection can be decent if she leaves out the neon section, I'm usually okay with neon but this is too much.

I wish she can move on from her " greatest hits" phase and decide to design something new and exciting again. She does her best when she uses her vo vocabulary and doesn't rely on Gianni as a tool to grab people's attention.

I mean this is not only the fault of Donatella or Capri. Yes, she is lazy and on autopilot, and Capri wanted to sell more stuff. But she won't send out all these collections if there wasn't a strong demand for all things nostalgia. All of this doesn't do anything for me because nostalgia without any substance is just meaningless. Why would I want a safety pin dress from today if it only gonna look like a knockoff of the original?

This type of collection doesn't move the brand forward or add anything memorable to Donatella's legacy.

And I guessed we can stop complaining about Lila Moss and her walk now when Lourdes out here serve us "that".

This is millennial fashion at it core and finest.
It’s a terrible collection and it says nothing but I can’t hate it. Donatella’s intentions are very obvious here…

These clothes will work on IG…From Dubaï to Lagos, from Miami to Atlanta and from the terrace of L’Avenue in Paris to the most hype place in Shanghaï.

In terms of fashion, this is very poor and not fresh in terms of proposition. Colored latex dresses in 2021? I though we moved pass that!
But this is maybe the magic of a brand like Versace. The imagery is so strong that they can afford to design mediocre collection…At least, it screams VERSACE.

I like the burgundy pant suit, the look on Precious, the foulard suits are cool as an idea and I love the blazer dress on Mica. As for the cast, Donatella knows her audience…It will assure her a lot of « Yaaaaaas » on Ytbe and IG.

To me it's quite obvious now that Donatella has been a follower, not a leader. And it would be perfectly fine, but this particular show is no different to her previous, post-acquisition collections and with that, in my opinion Versace is just another Maria Grazia in disguise. The collection itself is almost a costume party, there's no refinement, just some VERSACE ICONS placed very randomly and targeted at Gen Z. Once again, there's no soul behind those clothes because they're just too commercial.

I still think Versace needs a new artistic director asap.

Dua Lipa, Lola...? That's what I call inclusivity. LOL

It is so bad. First of all, can they STOP showing mens and womens in the same show? It's totally distracting.

The clothes and styling were all over the place. Who's gonna buy a Versace latex dress when they can get it for cheaper from the IG brands? and where are the finale gowns? I remember she used to show a handful of really nice gowns at the end of every show.

Not every model needs to be holding a mini bag either by the way.

Also, the casting was bad as well. The funny thing about these "modern-day" model castings is that they can throw in a bunch of female "plus size" models, but no male. Quite hypocritical, no?

loved watching the show, Dua was amazing.

The collection, all the bags and shoes are awful (does versace actually sell well? it always seems empty to me) but their branding and casting is so amazing , they just need better collections and a new designer

I genuinely thoroughly enjoyed this collection from start to finish, the atmosphere and energy kept me hooked while watching the live stream on YouTube. Dua Lipa was a wonderful surprise, thought she suited the show perfectly and there wasn't a single look I disliked.

Overall, this collection feels coherent which I can appreciate, each look flows and all the iconic Versace signatures are present - love the prints in those vivid colours (immediately transporting me back to Spring 2004), the safety pin detailing and the chainmail dresses toward the end. I'm ALL for it!

Everybody knows men don't need the reaffirmation of watching chubby guys walk down the runway or be featured in GQ, they can always suscribe to Men's Health and achieve the perfect figure in no time anyway!

I know Versus went kaput, but doesn't this have the look and feel of a diffusion line? It's all so watered-down and repetitive and...unambitious. The glittering chainmail-looking dresses are okay, but they mostly just remind me of how much better they looked in the S/S 2015 collection.

Even looking back at that period not too long ago, Versace was stll very much hit-or-miss, but at least there was a certain...conviction to all of the tackiness, and it kept you intrigued each season. Now it's just cynically churning out logo'd tops and putting Gigi Hadid and the other Insta girls in looks that you can barely distinguish from all the other Versace shows over the last three years.

I don't dislike Dua, but having her on the catwalk and blasting songs from her album that peaked 18 months ago just feels...cringe.

I went into the Versace store this week and my heart broke a bit seeing how much the quality has decreased. I mean threads actually hanging from some of the shirts and various garments. Unintentionally dull fabrics. The women's shoes and accessories are actually pretty good but I have no intentions of buying anything from the brand at the moment.

I prefer a bad direction over no direction at all.
