Victoria Beckham S/S 2020 London

It’s funny because I like it as a proposition but something about it feels disingenuous and I don’t believe this coming from her.

Let´s see: some looks are from late 70s; and the whole collection has a very bourgeois style...exactly like Celine by Slimane!!

But better!

Much better. I actually see more of a Valentino vibe going on here than Slimane's Celine or Stella McCartney (though I don't know why looking like Stella McCartney is a bad thing as her collections have been pretty decent as of late).

It's easy to scoff at this because it's Victoria Beckham but I won't make that mistake. This collection is solid. More so than in recent seasons.

In defense of all you haters, I get that there's a sense her label is like high end Zara and that she just chases the look of the moment. But like, duh! Of course that's what she's going to do. She does aggressively recruit top talent from throughout the industry so I wouldn't be surprised if she's got folks from Phoebe's era of Celine, Valentino and Stella working for her in London.

You don't have to like her or respect her as a designer. But you definitely should not turn your nose up at the business she's managed to create and the market she's able to capture. She didn't do that on the strength of her name. It's the clothes that women love to buy and wear.

I believe Joe McKenna styles it which is why the styling is FLAWLESS.

I don´t even respect her as a singer...so imagine my respect level to her as a designer!

Yes, she is a high-end Zara...but I don´t see the point in her customers buying copies by Vicky...when they can get the original clothes at the same price level...:hardhead:

Well, fashion these days!

I know people like to hate on her for knocking off others work or saying this is Zara but this is very, very good, don't see anything Zara about this , I would wear all of it and in a world without Phoebe she can take my money I am living for many of those outfits. Its actually one of the best shows I have seen this season thus far. These are clothes made for women who have careers yet balance personal lives .

Voice of clarity and reason.

These clothes are great and if they were by a different name, some of these naysayers would have a very different opinion. :innocent:

This is quite lovely. Refreshingly relaxed and feminine from her. It echoes late 00s Chloé, Lanvin, McCartney, YSL in way... all those flowy dresses are great.

Hope she keeps moving towards this direction. It's about time to leave the Phoebe-ism behind.

If these collection were by a different name, my opinion would remain exactly the same: expensive knock-offs! :ermm:

And about Vicky´s infatuation with Phoebe, all I can say is if were a woman I´d rather spend my money in Céline original clothes. They can easily be found in lots of online shops. I think is better to get an archive of originals, in my opinion! :mohawk:

Copying Stella is never a bad thing. I know she is still very controversial as a designer but she created a lane of her own that speaks to a lot of women, me included!

The dresses are very Stella and the bourgeois vibe is very Hedi.

I’m a Stella customer so I will always prefer to spend my money at Stella, even if Victoria can do a great rendition of it. Stella is cheaper with an equivalent quality...

My problem with Victoria’s stuff is that it’s just a great rendition of what is already available. It’s good but not ambitious enough...There’s nothing in the color palette that grabs your attention...

It’s very propret and generic. You never had that touch of bad taste that could give a personality to her clothes.

And there’s personally, for me as a woman maybe a problem of incarnation. She wears those clothes very well but she doesn’t embody her brand...Unlike in the beginning.
I need that factor to be invested in a brand somehow.

Is it beautiful ? Yes. Original ? No. But we all know that Victoria Beckham did not decide to have her eponymous brand to challenge Rei's throne as the avant garde designer. She wants to sell beautiful clothes and I believe she will.

Nice dresses, nice trousers, the fit from all the clothes is good, the styling elevates everything. In a era of everyone copying everyone, it is kind of irrelevant to pin point where designers took their inspiration. Everything is really generic about fashion since years.

wow stunning collection from Victoria, I think she keeps getting better and better, I think you could call this collection "very grown-up" "chic" "sophisticated"

Why do you guys have to Diet Prada-ing everything!
Ahaha didn’t Diet Prada copied everything from the « Outfit look alike » thread? Lol!

The difference here is that people actually understand that copying is actually part of the creative process. It has nothing to do with a love we might have for a designer.

There’s a difference between a Victoria Beckham being inspired by Celine and Stella McCartney and Virgil Abloh’s definition of « being inspired ».

Isn't that a bit of a double standard? I mean, you would hardly demand that from any male designer, wouldn't you?

Honestly, I think it's great that she sticks with her 'elevated Zara' collections and doesn't feel obligated to go another direction. This whole collection, like the previous ones, are nothing special but I could see her wearing every single look. And I feel like most women would too.

Ultimately, that's what a pret-a-porter collection should be: wearable.

Because here "Posh Spice" keeps insisting on being taken seriously as a designer. And no, selling clothes doesn´t make you a designer. No matter how many you sell, if all you do is copying from here and there. There is no design here. Her brand even doesn´t have a style of her own! Even the campaigns were copycats from Céline, for god´s sake!!
