They are starring in a Dutch TV commercial for a bank... I personally think it's the perfect way to kill your brand image in the Netherlands... not that it's a large market for them, but still. They are dressed up as blue lions (the company's mascotte)... Industry people think it's a bad show...

They are probably in need of money cause I can't see another reason why...

i just think the idea is hilarious, and don't know why a viktor and rolf look (even the hair) would match with a bank...

Hmmmm...wouldn't it be something if it really were the case Alura? Needing money after selling out creatively. Kind of ironic actually. Who knows though! Maybe they're lending their image as The Netherlands most famous fashion designers to help lesser knowns acquire bank managers/financial advisors??

The commercial is intended to sell mortgage to entrepreneurs.

The thing is, is that these commercials are done by various 'famous' Dutch people, so the Lion suit is in all of them and the celebs are dressed up. However, these are mostly tv stars, not international famed artists. It's just not up their standards to do this. When your perfume is being sold all over the world and the international press covers all your collections, why star in a local TV commercial? I think it's like selling your soul and somebody else said it was a money issue too. They are famous but not rich at all (yet).

Trust me, it is not Viktor nor Rolf in those suits. They are only lending their voice and dress to the commercial. The idea behind the commercial is their upside down collection. First you see Yfke Sturm wearing that dress upside up and then they think "Hey, why don't we turn it upside down!" Meaning, why don't you, the viewer, turn yourself upside down and get a good mortgage here, instead oif elsewhere. The two even mock themself in the end by saying "We should watch out now, otherwise it would seem we are doing a commercial for the Postbank." I think it's in an innocent step for them... and some good exposure for Yfke.. she even speaks!

^okay I see. Hmmm,I dunno. It's really kind of funny still to read that even though they've gone global and mass market they're still not making all that much money. Personally, though,I think they sold their soul a while ago when they did indeed decide to become a "gloablised brand". So perhaps it's another attempt at putting themselves out there as a more mass market fashion brand? Since you say it's about mortgages for entreprenuers....my point was maybe it's a way of getting small fashion businesses in the Netherlands into the banks?

Yeah. I think they are making fun, and grabs some money:-P They are not such seriuos about themself:-)

i agree nqth...completely...
i wouldn't read too much into this...
it's just a tv commercial...

money's money...and who couldn't use a little extra...^_^...
plus if it's really local, how much damage could it do to their reputation?...
how many people in the international community are even going to see it or even find out about it...?!?...

it's the same as tom hanks doing car commercials in japan...
it's just another payday baby...!!!...

*show me the MONEY!!!*

I was going to say the same.. they don't take reputation or image so seriously, they're just having fun, and who would reject easy money? As long as they're able to bring their ideas forward they're fine, I think.

I haven't even seen the commercial, it's my mom who told me she saw Viktor & Rolf on tv. Speaking of mass attention :p

Alura, I wonder how you felt about those bags with their sign on it. Or whatever it is. I heard they're everywhere [but here].

As per MrDale's comment .. I think's OK ... I actually admire than they ahd teh cake and ate it too!
