Vintage!

Yeah, I only buy jewellery, scarves or bags. I have ginormous feet, so find it difficult to find shoes, plus it sorta squicks me out anyway.

I love vintage jewelry (although probably not the kind your talking about tata). I've gotten so much cute necklaces for like $10 but most of them fall apart quickly too. oh well I still get more!

99% of my clothes are designer vintage.
Everything I post in the What Did You Buy Today? thread is vintage.

I like everything that I own and use to have some previous history.
Especially if it's clearly something someone once spent a lot of money on, and it's eventually ended up being naively given away and then bought for next to nothing.

What do you all think of second hand swimwear?

You should see this one charity shop where I live - one of the few that haven't been turned into big business type things - it has a plastic crate of second-hand underwear/swimwear type.
I shan't tell what we once found . .

Completely fascinating though!

^ Gosh ... here there are laws against that (or so I've been told)

I am torn between wanting to ask, and fearing to know

was taking photos of my store stock and remembered this thread so thought i'd share some lovely bags: :)

^Love your petit point bag

I am in general a fan of historical fashion so vintage is of course an important element in my wardrobe.

My favorite items are:

"Swan wing" head piece (1950's)

Shoes (1920's)

Dress (1940's) - comes from the surplus stock from my grandmother's shop, so I got it new with tag :D

Thank you ellesea and Crying_Diamonds!

I really love vintage shoes because they up to the 1950's had a more curved arch than today. That is much more comfortable and also more feminine and sexy imo.
However they are often awfully narrow - I really don't have wide feet at all but the older the shoes the more narrow they seem to be :(
I don't quite understand that because my grandma was born in 1901 and her feet were pretty normal.

I don't quite understand it either, because clearly the average foot size has changed quite a bit in recent decades. Could it all be nutrition?

Love the dress, btw  Have you worn it IRL?

People in general have bigger feet today, but I don't think the proportions have changed. Since I am a 36 I have no problems finding vintage shoes which fit in the length but they just often feel so terribly narrow although I don't have wide feet at all. Very strange! Maybe the shoes were supposed to be a kind of corset for the feet?

Yes, I was wearing the dress on one of my concerts. I am wearing a crinoline under it since it is quite heavy. The black fabric is silk velvet and the white fabric is silk moiré.

^ Well, your experience seems to indicate proportions have changed, if your feet are average ;) There must be academic articles on this, but perhaps in such highfalutin' language that we wouldn't be able to understand what the heck they're saying ;)

My reasoning would be that if feet back in the day were stunted, a foot the same length as yours should have been both longer & wider.

Zarina, that black dress is gorgeous. I don't suppose you have a spare lying around that you'd be willing to part with? ;)

It is weird - I have no explanation. I have measured my shoes, and all the new ones are approximately 3 inches over the ball of the foot - while the vintage shoes are 2 1/2-2 7/8.

No unfortunately :D:D

I've seen a lot of decent vintage Persian Lamb furs on ebay at the moment and if I see the right one for the right price I will be bidding for sure ;)

Nice style Zarina

^ ooo! Link me!
I won't bid - I just want to see which one you're looking at (I'm pretty obsessed with ebay right now)

I get my vintage clothes from modcloth.com and pinupgirlclothing.com. They have great selections.
