I have bought 3 pairs of vintage shoes and probably won't again. They seem to have a tendency to fall apart easily!! I would say just don't do it.

I do :flower: It's not really a collection per se -too difficult to find AUTHENTIC ones... girl you have no idea how many fakes were around in the 70's and 80's LOL.

Really> I never knew that.. :( How can yo tell?

i buy vintage shoes occasionally, mostly designer, and then have the interior re-lined by my cobbler, he changes the insoles for me. but this only makes sense if the shoes are worth the investment. i also bought a couple of "cutie" pairs, non designer, but simply chic. these underwent a thorough cleaning procedure. so, if you can replace the old interor materials with new materials, or if teh shoes can be cleaned easily: treat yourself! :D

Well you need to be a connoisseur of the label (which I am not), or know somebody who is.

I think the item is MOST regret buying is a "vintage" Chanel. I inspected it and saw the signs for authenticy: proper lining, the number, the carving into the CC's in the closure, the tag inside... so I went and bought it and just as I was leaving the shop manager said to her friend something, to which she replied "but it's not real darling!!!" and they laughed it off. Sigh. Well, at least I know the money went for a good cause (I bought it from a chartiy shop) and I didn't pay much for it, anyhow!

The best one is a vintage Speedy which I thought may have been fake because both sides of the canvas are upwards and turns out is a real one from when they used to use two different pieces of canvas to make the bag.

My advice is: if it's ridiculously cheap, chances are it's fake but you never know so buy away :flower:

Some beautiful pieces in this thread.

Does anyone please know of any places in Liverpool , Leeds or Manchester that specialise in 40s or 50s vintage. Leeds especially just seems to be full of 80s.

that polka dot blouse is beautiful:blush:

^ i don't know anywhere that speacilizes in era but i was in Preston a few months ago and they had a Vinatage Oxfam store that had a few stunning 40s dress and head-dress doubt there still though not really much help to you but

There are some lovely bags in here. I especially love the magazine clutches. I had my eye on one with Goldie Hawn on the cover myself (on ebay), but my computer snapped when I was going to bid on it, and then the auction was over.:(
