Vogue Australia June 2023 : Rita Ora & Taika Waititi by Robbie Fimmano

It's funny how many self-proclaimed feminists are here and then at the first chance they trash a woman.
Okay sure but why is it always a guy telling women they're hypocrites, questioning their opinion when it's negative, making sure they reduce them to their sex ('feminists trashing a woman!!' no, posters are criticizing a SINGER, is it a lot of mental gymnastics to see her as a singer or is 'woman' all you see? and did you notice it's mostly guys commenting above you and not fEmInIsTs?)...and all just to center/elevate themselves in the debate pretending to 'protect' the alleged trashed (as if we were too fragile for criticism), and predictably, sneaking in mockery on feminism in the process. Let's be honest, you are not sure why she's there either ('looks good' 'I prefer a model' are not exactly arguments in Rita's favor). By saying 'anyone with that PR and agents deserve the cover for all the pushing they do' and 'what if it's a paid cover?', you are not just showcasing the hypocrisy you accuse others of, but also zero interest on minimal integrity on credentials, talent, achievements, or even a product and frankly, a bit of gaslighting by pointing fingers at anyone questioning that, and accusing them of being hypocrites..

Anyway why is the guy not making eye contact... what is he, again? a director and not a spiritual guru? then look at the camera maybe..

At least the covershot is decently executed, composited and laid out… Not the most original since it’s been seen before countless times in some Ralph Lauren to Banana Republic campaign select. But still good enough, And that’s more than Vogues are capable of these days.

I have to highly disagree, come on PEOPLE lol : it's a bland background with stones, a man that is not recognizable by people in the street with BASIC JEANS looking away + a woman that looks sultry with a horrible salmon-ish dress and a boring pose. HOW can any of you or anybody who loves and knows fashion can say that ''this cover is good enough''. Sorry ahahahah I'm too passionate sometimes ahahaha it's nothing against you aahah. It's against the teams of VOGUE worldwide who ''produce'' this. It's a basic man in jeans and a basic dress. VOGUE to me is (sorry ''used to'') more than that.

I don't mind Rita but it's kinda crazy this is like her third or fourth Vogue cover already :grinningwsweat: (even in the current era where getting a Vogue cover is not that meaningful)

That's what I'm saying, you have huge top models and singers and stars worthy of a Vogue cover who don't have one and that woman gets 3 already ??? I meannnnn.
But yeah granted ahahaha Vogue covers don't mean s*** these days ahahaaha especially when the big 4 don't have the same power or meaning they used to (it seems centuries ago for me ahahaahahah.)

It’s far from “good” in the high standards of 2007, Bertrando. But we’re far far far from 2007— thus far far far from high standards these days. I’d rather he not looks at the camera and serve as more of a prompt to her. I couldn’t care less for Rita (she’s like a Jennifer Aniston who’s become a consumer brand that people like/love even if they’re not in any media project), but Vogue is still, or at least ought to be, still about women and not men, So her being the focus is at least a good reminder of that.

(Glad you’re still passionate. I’ve become apathetic towards current-day fashion, and Vogues are at the bottom of the bottom of that barrel of low-standards in 2023, so nothing they produce will get me riled up. It’s like getting all fired up because the photographer/model/styling at a Walmart shoot didn’t exactly live up to high fashion high standards LOL And Vogue's output isn’t that far from Walmart's these days.)

True ahahaha you're right, I highly agree now ahahaha. You know what though, this is why I love this space, these forums truly are made of amazing people who love fashion and to debate, share ideas and opinions as well as photos, previews and so on. I love to come to these forums and see so many different opinions from mine and yet we see the same magazines worldwide in our newsstands, it's very interesting.

They love her in Australia so I guess this is aim at them? reminds me of Kylie Minogue in the sense that even when she wasn´t making popular music she was still big in Australia and the UK... I don´t mind it... I´m here for Taika anyway :)

I’m not a Kylie fan by any stretch but put some respect on her name! She has decades of actual success and songs people (at least outside of the US) can name. Comparing her to Rita is a bridge too far :handovermouth:

First, my comment was in general not dedicated to an specific TFS member, my opinion was in general, RO is constantly trashed and im not even sure if you comment about it or not, but i don't see who is commenting just read the opinions. FYI there is a bunch of guys self´proclaimed feminists. and i don't see women as fragile creatures or something like that, all is your interpretation of my text.

Second, i'm sure why she is there and it's mostly because of her PR work, i search and she has an album coming out soon, but also because she looks good in clothes and let's be honest fashion the same way is related to nepotism is the same with contacts, i'm sure over the years RO develop strong relationships that allowed her to market herself and that helps her also to get the coverage. i don;t know her but she must be good in PR herself, assuming of course.

Third, like i said if she managed to be around in 2023 after all these years maybe she is not influential like Kylie, Rihanna, etc but i'll give her credit, maybe she is good selling magazines idk maybe it's not your way of thinking but it's ok we all have different opinions and coexist. I will always prefer a model cover than a ANY celebrity.

Fourth, my criticism is about the way comments are made, the needless adjectives to make the point that she doesn't "deserve" the cover...like i've said new album is coming out, maybe is a non event for some but for others is the perfect occasion to put her on the cover.

Very strange that she didn’t post the cover on her IG when we know how big this is for her. I mean despite her ‘fame’ she doesn’t actually have a lot of covers.

What if she didn’t know it would be a couples cover?

^ that would be odd if she didn’t know, considering he’s in every photo. She did comment on Vogue’s post, thanking Christine. Taika didn’t post the cover on his Instagram either, despite posting his Hollywood Reporter cover, which is out concurrently. Maybe there’s trouble in paradise?

In 2023 selling singles and albums is no longer the only way to be relevant. She's worth $30m and still invited to the most A list events and put on the most coveted covers, I don't see where we can call her a flop or has been.

I really don’t understand the hate, she’s not like a Beyonce or Rihanna that are very forced but everyone claps at everything they do

I & YOU reminds me of her aesthetic during the beginning of her music career. People used to accuse her of copying Rihanna but IMO its just their resemblace otherwise their style and looks are very different. Her vocals are far more superior to Rihannas too as much as I love Rihanna's vibe, down to earth attitude and business savvy.
