If Imaan Hammam and Yasmin Wynaldum also get covers, they will be the second and third black women on Vogue China since the magazine's launch in 2005 (Naomi Campbell was the last one in January 2009). Appalling! But better late than never, I suppose.

It's cheerful VC uses black models as their cover girl again, even though dark skin doesn't match the mainstream aesthetic in China.

That's true, and I don't know how to rationalise it at all. It's not even a matter of familiarity, because I see loads of black culture fragments throughout Chinese fashion media, yet no actual black faces. I think Japan share that same crazy fetshization with porcelain skin, but then they have a much better rapport to be honest. In all fairness, they have been exposed to black people/culture since the late 40's, and probably even more during their financial boom which stretched from the 70's until 1992.

The cover is not bad, but they shouldn't have let her baby hair float around the masthead like that.

10 names on the cover but only 8 covers, so either some girls share one, or don't have one at all.

Don't these magazines know anything about exclusivity? Last year, Gigi had VP and VC for March. Now, Gigi has UK and VC for March. What gives?

Having said that, this reminds me of Anja Rubik's cover for Vogue Ukraine. Same goes for that cover, this has a very awkward pose paired with a terrible dress. The hair could have been better as well. This just feels undone.

Vogue China has yet to impress me with their take on Gigi. Last year was no good, and this year is of no exception.

She's everywhere, wow! It's a good cover though. The YSL (?) looks quite chic, and this is another fairly solid output from Demarchelier recently (he's so erratic).

As much as random strands of hair annoy me, they humanise the shot. Super-slick perfection might have made it seem one-dimensional.

Knocking it out of the park. This is a gorgeous cover. Gigi really IS today's supermodel. She's like a modern-day Cindy or Claudia, which I know will sound like blaspheme to some of you - but I'll stand behind that statement.
