Vogue China September 2024 : Lui Yifei by Yu CongYu

Does anyone know how many pages this issue is?

^^^Not available yet.

BTW, could be wrong of course, but highly doubt Rocco contributed to this issue. He was officially announced as Vogue China’s ED in July 11. This issue would have already long been completed, pressready by then. Knowing how expansively cinematic his signature was for GQ China, doesn’t seem like he would have debuted with this minimum-effort, flat-lighting shoot. Of course it’s not impossible he rushed to produce this generic-looking story for the September issue— or had been ghost-editing long before his official announcement joining Vogue. But that’s highly unlike since what would be the point of hiring someone with such rich storytelling cinematics— just to have him produce such generic, Marge-like work???

I think this issue was already underway when Rocco arrived. We can't consider it to be his first issue

if so, i give him grace and wil ignore this as his intro as ED of vogue china. i've seen his GQ work, and this is not up to par, so i'm fine casting a blind eye over this because... no, this ain't it.

I can confirm from the masthead that this issue is not Rocco's first.

Thank goodness Rocco isn’t credited with the coverstory nor under the masthead. And it’s smart of him to be excluded from this issue if he did contribute any way.

What a slog the coverstory is— dragging on for far too long with nothing to show for it. It has the worst of Marge’s grubby amateur meddling all over it: Just too many ideas resulting in a directionless bore. That, and Yifei having the same dead expression in every shot doesn’t help.

The only 2 fashion stories that possesses energy are Nick Yang’s very Bourdinesque “Double Act” and Zeng Wu’s “Ready to Take Off”. Not sure if Rosalia’s shoot is a shared content, but ti looks very junior department store and jarring next to the 2 superior original fashion stories. There are 2 other reprinted fashion stories that’s been whored out too many times already: Mikael Jansson’s and Olivier Hadlee Pearch’s, giving this issue a budget feel rather than a September issue feel. 302 pages.
