Vogue Italia February 2011 : Candice Swanepoel by Steven Meisel

Looks like the newest low for Meisel, and how impudent one has to be to put So glamorous in its description?

you hit the bullseye
for me one of the most terrible Vogue Italia covers of all time

this just seems so random. i must've missed the memo on the whole disco diva/rollerskate/ skank trend. bold and bright in the worst way possible. i would've loved to have been a fly on the wall when this look was deemed cover-worthy:huh: an instance in which i'd hope there wasn't a corresponding editorial...

I really like the bold, rich and glamourus side of the styling. Candice is a stunning woman, a clear definition of sexy, dreamy and commercial. Can look at her day in and day out. Will definitely get this issue.

well it's got people talking, that's for sure!

I just read through 9 pages of either Love It or Hate It, some posts were quite passionate (how do you hate someone you don't even know?).

I think in that sense, the cover did its job.

I don't like the 90's cover thing at the moment, and I don't like the model choice, but I don't really mind the cover. I'll have to wait until I see the editorial's to make a decision about buying it though.
And I agree with Littleathquakes, it's got people talking for sure...

I don't think I'll ever be a fan of the whole 90s take on opulence, or models as conventional as Candice.. or bodies as exuberant (and impossible to achieve unless you're a gym maniac, let's just say it) as hers, but for some reason, I'm just so drawn to this.. for all the things I listed here, for the fact that a lot of magazines (including my favorites) would go to great lengths to avoid precisely this kind of thing.. this isn't refreshing in the 'real world', this looks like everything at the newsstands really, but for what it is and the place it occupies in fashion, I think it's fun.. and face aside, she really has a gorgeous body.
i think it's kinda fun, too.
what i really like is the minimalism of the 90s. when i see this opulence in old eds i generally find it fun to see, but it doesn't "touch" me at all aethetically. maybe that's why i think it's interesting to see it re-done nowadays... though it does depend on who is doing it and where.

This is so interesting, it's very raw and a bit edgy actually. I think Candice looks gorgeous, and I can't wait to see Ann's editorial of course.

Idk, after seeing a larger version of the cover I kind of love it. Her face looked too smushy and tanned when I first saw it. But there is a level of camp glamour that I'm feeling. Its the styling thats bringing this cover down a bit to me, the jewelry is way too gaudy and plentiful. With that said I am slightly looking forward to the main editorial. I'm hoping its multi-girl because Candice can be rather weak in eds by herself, but Meisel can make anyone truly shine.

I can't wait for the Summerton story with the top black models. The cast has amazing potential (as evidenced by "the Gangs of New York" story in US Vogue). I'm excited to see Jourdan, Chanel, Melodie, and Anais!

I hate this cover, is horrerous!!!!!

One of the worst covers of all time in VI history.

I relly hope than the eds are better.

Oh dear. Some of the reactions in this thread...

Not really a fan of the cover, but I'm definitely happy to see Candice. I also love the Meisel 90's feel.

I am not a fan of Candice, but I think the cover is nice and she kind of reminds me of Amber Valleta in that shot.
People should just calm down, VS models aren't my favorites either, but hating on them is just nonsense.
Anyway, I'm too excited for Ann's editorial!!!!!!!!!!!

 awww. I love how this is gonna freak people out. I don't love it, don't hate it. I accept it.

Patiently waiting for Ann's ed. I'll be disappointed if it isn't in this issue, rofl.

It's no longer ironic when the trashy new money look is done every month.

EXACTLY!!! I don't care for the gaudy gold jewelry but it gives it that old school 90s feel like she came out of the movie Grease.

Grease is a 70s movie which is set in the 1950s...

The cover resembles some of Meisel's very early Italian Vogue work-of course, with less class and more bling.

Of course it was styled by Carlyne Cerf De Dudzeele! Personally I like this cover, very funny. Plus Candice has an amazing body!

review maybe tomorrow, the issue hits newstands on 3 feb
hopefully there will be something worthy besides the main ed , i would love to see a tim walker ed.

^well when you put it like that it doesn't make sense. I meant that she looks very 90s,
but her hair style and biker jacket looks like Olivia Newton's character in Grease
not the fact that that it's supposed to take place then, but whatever. clearly you don't like it so move on!
