Sissy knows her métier, knows her Chanel, knows her Paris. The same can be said about Mika: she owns the role, the clothes, and the spaces fiercely. Sublime, just as the cover foretold. Thank you for this gorgeous holiday gift, @Zorka! :santa:

Dear Zorka, is the cover story the only original ed in this issue?

The cover is a weak version of that Avedon's image with Uma Thurman & Unknown model (original), but the editorial is gorgerous.

Ai! Mika is a cute girl but just kind of... there. Her editorial screams low budget as well.

(Farewell :() Editor's Letter:

(Forgive "my" Japanese, I really tried my best - by combining a multiple translators! - to make the most accurate translation of it, especially its last part which I'm gonna post here.)

To the place where the heart dwells.

... What is "fun" anyway? The meaning behind this simple word, which is often used in our daily lives, is much deeper than you might think, and I feel it invites us to the doorway of the truth of life. For me, "fun" is a state of being "moved" in an active way. In other words, the realm where fun begins can be described as the place where the heart dwells.
I am sorry to be so personal, but this Editor's Letter is my way of expressing my gratitude to you all. It has been a great pleasure for me to deliver 160 letters to you over the past 13 years and 4 months, and I would like to thank you all for your support over the years.
The hours I spent writing these letters at the end of each month were invaluable for me, because I was able to confirm with my heart what I continue to produce the magazine for. And what I kept discovering over and over again is that through the process of editing I was able to think, love, and feel fashion, beauty, living and the world. In other words, I enjoyed the whole process.
This is exactly what I mean when I say, "I was having fun". This is exactly where my heart resides. From now on, Vogue Japan will head toward a new future. The cover title of this issue is "Bright Horizons". May your tomorrow, or today, be peaceful and bright. Let's open the door!

Till some next adventure, Godspeed our beloved Mitsuko Watanabe!

A historic letter, penned by a legend. For all the changes and shortcomings in these past years, Vogue Japan remains a pillar in the Vogueverse, and a personal classic that even at its weakest, can do no wrong in my eyes. Thank you for always going the extra mile, @Zorka! :flower:

I like the editorial, but its missing something that would have made it great. I can't pin point it though.

Such a bright, uplifting farewell letter. Mitsuko sounds like a class act.

Thank you for your effort and passion @Zorka, your contributions keep thefashionspot's heart beating!

At the very least, this has that old-school Japanese Vogue feel that I grew to love over the years, with the white background and solo cover model. This is also, undoubtedly, a thousand times better than last month's nightmare-inducing and downright eyesore of a cover.

I'm also rather fond of that first black and white portrait of Mika from the cover story! Perhaps the photograph in question would have made for a more superior cover.
