Vogue Netherlands September 2025 : Imaan Hammam by Lachlan Bailey

I really want to like the first cover as the scenery is gorgeous and I love her face, but I hate the outfit, it ruins everything.
She is quite mediocre in print, but sometimes something clicks and she suddenly looks more mature and confident, like in the first image.
Other 2 covers are typical Imaan with her lost child expression.

And just like that... I really did not expect to be let down by this pairing. She looks like roadkill on the first cover, the second works best for me but is entirely forgettable, and the third just seems like an afterthought.

Imaan is beautiful but I am not in love with any of the covers. The only one that works for me is the second.

^^ Don't forget Yasmeen Ghauri. She was the Imaan of her era and earned top model status. Wasn't like Linda or Naomi, but close to Karen, Stephanie or Nadja, that kind of position. Said it before, Imaan would have been an Alaïa favorite. Of course the racism at that time was horrible, but I'm so glad YG made it among the others. So if she did, I don't see the problem of her having a career. Tought to this time I can't believe Imaan never scored a VI Meisel cover under Franca. I thought that Edward would give to her that cover, but weirdly enough, it never happened. She keeps scoring Meisel ads, but never a cover. Another Natasha Poly case, ha.

Imaan never disappoints. She always naturally, instinctively, and effortlessly portray a worthy character like the Greats of yesteryear. She’s like the physical embodiment of a lovechild of Yasmeen Ghauri and Neneh Cherry, with the allure of Great Garbo. Had she been of that past era, the likes of Yves and Azzedine would have made her their top muse, no doubt. Her versatility is unmatched: I can’t imagine any other top model working right now, with her sensibility to carry a deeply, cinematic story seeped in an autumn-y afternoon going into cool dusk timeline, as effortlessly as she’s able to, for this shoot. And it’s a great shoot. Just too bad that Nederland is stuck on a loop with these kinds of an urban street aesthetic for every single issue— with their fashions stories styled in that Christophe Decarnin’s Faith Connexion ragtag mix, time after time, issue after issue. It’s competently executed as always, but it’s so tedious at this point. Still worth it just for Imaan’s coverstory and the Azzedine feature.

Vogue Netherlands September 2025

What could have been one of the best editorials this awful decade has produced was ruined by bad styling. The scenery, lighting, atmosphere are amazing. For once I wouldn't mind if the whole story was an YSL advertorial. That collection would fit so well.
