Vogue Paris February 2005 : Gemma Ward by Mario Testino

You're so right and when someone says it's none of your business or it's not your problem,I feel like I have the right to voice my opinion. I'm sure that the people at Vogue could care less what I think but it seems that I'm not the only one that thinks this cover is trash.

I'm not sure how relevant it is that she is 'flat-chested', she won't change, she's finished growing

you completely misunderstand everything i say.

I suggest you analyze the tragic social climbing of the february melania/trump story. us vogue used to have models now it has shallow socialites, the kept women of styleless vulgar gaudy billionaires. its all anna wintours sad tragic agenda that SI tolerates. THAT is the mystery

I understand that paris vogue cover 100% & maybe its your perception & modernity that needs adjusting. [do you know who helmut newton is? guy bourdin? meisel in italian vogue? what are you a prude??] Im happy to ally myself with paris vogue. they rock & rule.

its us vogue that sucks & if you dont know how frumpy & sexless anna wintours vision is then you dont read us vogue since the 90s.
theres been sex in us fashion magazines since the 70s- are you some kind of gw bush accolyte who suddenly embraces 'christian values' in fashion? youre in the wrong business. dont apply your christian values to the fashion world, its inappropriate & thats why paris vogue rules & us vogue sucks.

I have yet to see a post of yours that doesn't emphasize your own cultural and societal superiority. Believe me, no one here cares who or what you are, so you can drop the whole old-money-UES-rich-b*tch act. Because I suspect that's all it is.

Oh, sigh...

1. Deff. not a GW fan.
2. Religion and fashion photography don't go hand and hand. I don't know where you got the fact that I am trying to impose my "Christian values" on this cover.
3.Yes, I know who Hemlut Newton, Stevel Miesel are. Not sure who Guy Bourdin is, sorry (though, I am guessing a photographer;) ). I guess I can't post about fashion.
4. I'm not a prude, I don't know where that came from..? I just think they should have chosen a slightly older and more mature model for such a suggestive shoot. And Gemma is great, nothing against her.
5. Yes, US Vogue sucks. So I don't buy it.
6. Calm down.

Model Mom, I completely agree with you. This photograph could have been beautiful, if they had chosen a more womanly model... by that I mean more mature, and older. I think it's a little sick, to be honest. Gemma is gorgeous, I love her work as a model and I think she has an amazing career, but the fact of the matter is that she looks like a little girl here. I'm not a prude, but I'm a little disturbed. I feel like this is the kind of picture that people who are opposed to the modeling and fashion world would use in their presentations, no?

i agree with you clementine, and model mom and the others that think gemma just isn't doing it here. yes, she is a great model, has had many beautiful covers, eds, ads, but she does look like a 16-year old little girl on that cover. If the theme is erotic chic, they could have gone with nadja auermann (a helmut fave) or even an older "new" girl like daria or liya.

french vogue is definitely more "with it" than american vogue, but this time french vogue got it wrong. i am waiting to see what the edits look like...

and i have nothing against melania knauss, but to flaunt this wedding/her search of a gown and not put a noteworthy actress--yes, even though it's not a model--on the cover is beyond me.

It could have been a 16 year old or a 45, you will always find a way to critisize before giving so many bad judgements try reading the cover at least to c the theme... maybe an other model like gisele who looks more mature as you say.. would have looked too vulgar for that style i prefer that than having a stupid women thats gonna get married on us vogue.anyways everyone has their opinions.

whos being bitchy you or her?u should chill and let her think what she wants:innocent:

dior4ever: we shouldnt generalize, I'm not outraged by Gemma's age, from my little experience, I think some people still consider 14, 15, 16 yearolds to be quite innocent when..maybe some cases are like that but not all of them, I just turned 19 and I can fairly tell that 3 years ago there was a lot of people in school who'd perfectly understand the gap between nudity, soft p*rn, p*rn and just plain vulgarity.. it's definitely not about being prude..it's about common sense imho.
I dont like the cover because it's grotesque and I'm not really surprised of the cover because as much as people portray Gemma to be as some kind of renaissancebeauty or whatever......I always thought she was vulgar:D

gemma & paris vogue are my heroines

thank you dior. Im a sweetheart, and too much so to even reply on such a low level to metal on metal. I will say i find facial piercings disgusting, and I dont believe any woman of class will ever pierce except her ears. MY OPINION. what is that avatar picture, freddy krueger? or frederika?

anyway we've been round & round this one.
gemma is among the top models alive in 2005 & I adore her & support every decision she makes. she is THRILLED about her paris vogue cover so lets give her a standing ovation & renew our paris vogue subscriptions. my opinion.
i LOVE paris vogue & italian vogue & nippon vogue & its tragic we live in such a closeted, uptight 'moralistic' country [usa] that nudity is not allowed in our mainstream magazines. Im moving to Rome, whos joining me??
I DONT buy US vogue its sent to me for free.
and yet I may critique it on occasion here, but already i fear my unfettered opinions are too strong for some.
metal, or anyone, if you dont like my words, feel free to disregard my posts. we will BOTH sleep more peacefully at night. have some chamomile tea meditate 'pon it.
lastly, its US vogue's decisions that are worrisome- not french vogue-- MY OPINION.

its sad that metal gets his studded knickers in a twist over a few magazine or shopping or model comments.
the murder of Iraqi children worries me much more.
and the exploitation of a 13 year old girl by ford models in their [fixed] 'competition.'
you choose your causes & positions I choose mine.
gemma is a self-determining multi-millionaire & she deserves our praises & respect, not some petty american moralizing over a brilliant parisian legendary magazine. thats how I see it in my opinion & in my little corner of the world. off for a heaping mediterranean salad. avocadoes = happy!!

Ur opinion

The cover is ok - I like her bod and the dress but the angle she holds her face is wrong - makes her look fish eyed. And the hair is a little too Carine R. I think it would have been wise to have fuzzier hair for her to accenturate the Lolita aspect.

Gemma is 17, soon to be 18, btw, not 16. I think it's silly to say that she's too young for the sexy pose - really it's just suggestive and not overtly sexual. We're talking Paris Vogue - they sometimes put topless models on the cover....

I think both sides of the argument are not.. well.. nevermind.
I am not surprised with the cover of Gemma at all and neither am I distrubed.. Parisian culture is very much like that, you will see a lot of topless women or models posing erotically on the covers of Paris Vogue and also topless women in Paris and France.. very common and legal.
America and Paris have two very different cultures and ideals, one is more conservative and one is more liberal. Neither is right or wrong, choose what suits you. There are other ways to portray beauty other than erotic poses or nudity but that's how Paris likes it. Personally I like both countries and don't like comparing them, because to me it's like comparing apples and oranges. :flower:

I have this issue! Gemma's edit is so amazing! So psychological and odd and sexy and fun. She's like an evil little girl, trying to murder her fishy and dismembering her Barbie dolls.

Oh how desperately I want that Westwood lips tee !

Love this issue! The Anja Rubik ed is stunning. One of my fave I&V stories. The Gemma ed is gorgeous too. Gemma is the perfect barbie doll in this ed. If I remember correctly the girl in the McDean ed is Crysytal Renn.

I love to see Anja's gorgeous and healthy looking hair over her face (not that I mind her face) and it really is the perfect haircolour. Honey blond or something like that. Seems like I&V liked that at that time because the Chloé campaign had a very similar theme.
